New toy (XR2 inside)

Yeh it's definitely not running low oil pressure, because the light comes on if it is. It's getting warm and the high pressure warning is kicking in on the digidash - it's just kicking in too early.

Had a quick look today to see what the brake wear is like and to put the other set of wheels on while the race ones are painted. Found a couple of oddities, amongst some general pics...

May be related to the steering wheel being about 70 degrees out. May be a bent arm, may be something else. It'll be reet.

its normal you jeb end, whole idea of a ball joint, think you will find if you tug on it it will strighten up ;)

so out of all of that it maybe needs a clean and a new tyre.

Just a quick vid from the first session on track. Car has been off the road for six months, so didn't push things too hard to start off with, keeping revs down. Was just getting used to the uber low seating position and long reach to the pedals. At the next one, I'm going to nail it ;)

what kind of fees are involved with that stock hatch? i may be interested in doing it in the mk1 fez pop for a laugh

No updates for ages - because nothing's really been happening. Car's been up with Hutchie at Mickleton Service Station for a week or so, where more's happened than in the five months I've owned it. Everything's taking shape nicely, with just a bit of paintwork and stickers left to do. I let the Chief Mechanic take it out for a spin earlier to warm up the new oil and scrub in some brand new tyres... and to make sure it goes in a straight line :)

YouTube decided that I'd filmed in Australia and fucked up the rotation accordingly.

after the slowest drive in history, fuel pump on tow vehicle failing fast, alex now has his baby back.

its been emotional.

Haven't really done much of a job keeping this updated. Lots has changed since September!

Problem turned out to be a cracked inlet manifold, with water leaking into the engine bay and collecting as in the pic above and also into cylinder two, giving the steam cleaning effect below.

Whilst the head was off it was sent away for pressure testing which it passed, a very thin skim (minimum head thickness rules next season) and a good clean up!

Noticed a small valve mark in piston one, which happened under previous ownership and is too small to cause any issues (hopefully).

New (as in uncracked) inlet manifold prepared and the engine rebuilt....

Slight change in appearance for 2011's first race at Mallory, after a vinyl wrap of the bonnet in Matt Black.

Cadwell was more interesting, something about wheel nuts and wheels parting company. Left a little bit of wing damage...

Not sure this disc is re-usable though

Scrutineers at Cadwell weren't happy with the wiring of my kill switch, so I've had to re-route that.

Also fitted a new steering wheel, the old one was a 300mm with no dish. With having long legs (no pics) I have to have the seat quite far back (and low down - better COG) so the old wheel was a stretch once any lock was on. The new wheel is a 350mm diameter with a 90mm dish, so feels much better position wise. It does encroach on my forward view a little bit, but I'll see how bad that is at Donington and make necessary adjustments at the circuit, because that's how I roll.

Have fun tomorrow Alex, lets hope it all stay's together.
What time is your race,I will see if I can persuade the Bedmonsta to have a trip out.

Done a fair bit to the car since Donington, new wheel bearings, hub flanges at the front, after a double failure at Cadwell and Donington.

Tracking has been done by eye since last year, so it's just been re-done properly at a garage and it was comedy out, 3 degrees or something more than it should have been in total.

Windscreen replaced after it was shot blasted at Donington.

268476_699309263694_222304875_7465195_5019203_n.jpg

The grille and headlights were also smashed into about twenty different pieces by the gravel at Donington, so they've all been replaced (no pic).

Everything is now ready for Silverstone this weekend, if anyone's in the area, tickets are cheap, and we qualify at 10am, race at 3pm on the triangle (National) circuit, Sunday.

Fed up of being a sitting duck down the straights, so I've bought an old block (for £30) to convert to 1mm oversize, the max allowed in the regs. Updates to follow over the next week or so.
