New Tyres, careful removal and fitting required

This has driven me mad for years ever since I bought a car with alloys!!

Every time I have been to get new tyres fitted to alloys no matter where it is they seem to some how (no matter how slight it is) to scratch the alloys.

My 182 alloys are mint and its the first time tyres will need to be fitted. Can anyone give me some information on a company that can do their job probably with out making a balls up! I live in Surrey by the way, Cheers.

whenever I used to buy brand new alloys from DemonTweeks (NW) they would always end up with some small scuffs or indents in them from the tyres being fitted. When I bought a new set from R-Tec (http://www.r-tecautodesign.com/ near St Albans) they were absoloutely PERFECT.

the tyres bars (if its a good place should have a plastic cover over them)

or do what i do and request they wrap the tyre bar is gaffer tape

Agree with Fred - the plastic covers are sadly ususally lost but one place I always go to are very good and never scratch them.

Pro Tyre are very good - not sure if they have a local branch to you, most branches where in the South West (there site seems to be down at the moment) but think they expanded to Slough and Enfield so may be further afield than that now.

Both the local to me Gloucester and Bristol depots take real care with wheels, and both had replacement policys in place if they do mess up. Every time I have been in they always have high end vehicles in there.

I was thinking about taking the two front wheels off my car and taking them to ren with my new tyres to put on. I reckon that could be the best plan of action! Take them in looking mint and if they do wreck them then they can supply new ones!

bad idea lol , if most tyre places cant do it properly, imagine renault!

i can do them without scratching alloys, based in middlesbrough

I had mine done last week and they put a plastic cover over the alloy when they move the machine in to the alloy then if you watch it doesnt touch the alloy on the way round when removing the tyre i was watching them if you watch they seem to be more carefull

I have one in my town but they are really expensive

I have one in my town but they are really expensive

I'd rather pay the extra TBH.

it is very frustrating when tyre places don't take enough care.

thankfully, I have a mate of a mate who's a mechanic and can also change tyres, and he's v careful!!

I have noticed the place I use has a new machine, which uses an additional arm to hold the tyre in place and away from the rim while the guide pushes it down. This used to be the operators job by holding a big flat bar against the inside of the rim.

was advised to pop up to a company on the local trading estate who I never new exsisted in order to check out wheel balance on my 172 cup.

they specialise in tyres and fitting.

very professional extreamly quick and where happy to let me stand and watch 4 wheel removal clean balance and replace. nuff said

i go to somewhere that uses the above tyre machine, and they still scratched them. its annoying, but to be honest they were track wheels, so i aint that gutted.
