Im kinda considering a Clio 172 or 182 as my next car. However im not sure wether or not you can fit a towbar to them? I need to haul just about a ton an a braked trailer.
The 172 nd 182 cnnot have offical Renault towbars fiteed.
The 172 has had them fitted though in the past and a 182 one could be made.
Im not sure a 182 though is realy up to towing a ton. I know it has the torque but the clutch wont like it. Particularly if you want to start filling the car with stuff as well.
thanks for the replies, its a shame if they cant tow oh well. It was a nice idea while it lasted. I need a good car for towing as I need to tow my racecar all over the country plus have a reasonable fun and practicle car for the daily commute.
Personally given your circumstances I would either go for a new Vectra diesel as these are very quick and frugal for the engine size and what they cost.
Or get a year old 3.2 GSI. Can get them for £13k at a year old and with 15k on a clock. As quick as a 182 in a straight line but a lot larger and they dont have to be ranted to get anything out of them. Nearly got one of those but went for a brand new 182 instead.
The engine in a 182 is gutless below 5k rpm compared to other cars that have a far lower headline power figure so no use for towing at all.
