newbie - considering 172 Cup -advice needed!

  Renault clio dynamique
Hi everybody

Need a bit of advice. I'm currently driving a 1.2 dynamique but saw a 172 Cup today and am seriously considering it. It's an 03 plate, done 24k miles and is £7500 (from a big dealer). Does this sound like a good deal? Also I'm on a bit of a budget so don't have a lot of spare cash for replacing tyres etc too often and also am not technical at all (female!) so would not be into modifying it etc and if anything goes wrong I would be at the mercy of the garages!

What's the advice from all you experts, should I go for it???

Couple of last questions, how much is road tax (I'm used to the cheapest just now) and are there any girls on here who could give me an idea of insurance cost (25+, 6yrs no claims).

Ta very much for any help

you could probably get a newer one that is still covered under warranty for that price you know.................. they can be bought for little money now! petrol will come as a shock to you if your coming from a 1.2.......but they are a lot of fun to drive! i say.........if you can afford it then get it!

Yes you deffo could get a 53 reg for that if you bought private. With warrenty.

If you want RAW! are are into trackdays then get a Cup. Plus because of the lack of AC you can slap on more mods. Plus a Cup is way more suited to trackdays but.........

If you want a good, quick day to day can with more luxuries than your current car get a standard 172. Believe me the Cup is not even as well spec'd inside than a dynamique.

Honestly I bought a Cup and always wish I had the 172 because my car has never gone near a track. Plus the average jo couldn't tell the difference.

Big performance jump from a 1.2 plus the Cup has quite a hard ride.

(unless your Fred)

My advice is to test drive both.

ps tax is £160 due to it being a high Co2 level car.

I would never have it near a track either so maybe it's not the best option, should maybe look at the standard 172. Cup is cheaper though...

I was thinking of going to a dealer just to save me the hassle of selling my dynamique as dealer offered me more than I owe on it so wasn't losing out there. Have never done a private sale but maybe now would be as good a time to start as any. I'll do a bit more looking around and see what I can find (and probably go and test drive this one tomorrow anyway!)

Cheers for info

theres a few bargain cups for sale on here at the moment i think. if you like climate control and leather seats and xenon lights, then you might as well get a 172. If your not bothered about stuff like that and want it to be slightly faster and handle slightly better, then get the Cup. otherwise they are extremely similar actually, you cant go wrong with either :) good luck
