Newbie from surrey looking to buy a trophy

  Mk5 GTi Edition 30
Hi all

new to the forum and currently driving/selling my beloved mk5 golf gti edition 30 fully built by REVO to stage 2 334hp 341ftlb, I would post a link to my build thread but not if it complies with forum rules and I don't want to annoy the admin/mods just yet :rasp:

Cut a long story short me and the misses want to buy our first house at Christmas so my pride and joy has to go, with it being 7 years old and quite high milage now I'm going to loose serious money if I keep it 2 more years. but I'm leaving myself £4K to buy a fun car that looks the part and is also a limited edition car again, which brings me to the 182 trophy.

I'm not a spammer or a dreamer, I've got a 520+ post build thread and over 1500 post count in my forum, I also attend local monthly meets and help other members out in person and in the forum. i think forums are great ways to learn and make good friends in the car scene

I Couldn't just drive a s**t car for 18 monthes or so till we're settled in our house, I will be buying a mk7 golf R in 18 though so this will be a fun project to keep going until we recoupe some cash back together.

i know it's probably been posted thousands of times but I'm just after info on things to look out for when viewing, issues with the car, cambelt and water pump due, I know the Sachs suspension needs rebuilding, when?

all help and info will be appreciated. I will be modding this one slightly, I won't be spending £6-7.5k though like I did on the edition 30 :rasp:

My plans are

engine:

k&n panel filter
fog light cold air feed
exhaust system
general clean up

suspension brakes:

clio 200 cup brembos
brembo discs and pads
hel red braided lines
strut braces and anti roll bars
engine mounts
yokohoma ad08r legal track tires

interior:

OMP deep dish steering wheel
OMP harnesses with harness bar

I'm looking for a trophy with the following

-70K maximum
factory cruise control
factory Recaro buckets
factory Xenons
completely standard
full service history

How reliable are the engines/gearbox on these? If high milage is the way to go with my budget.
What issues do these develop as they get higher milage?
can Xenons be retrofitted into them?

thanks
jake

Mileage isn't an issue for these engines providing it has a decent, documented service history.

Cambelt should ideally have been done recently by a specialist otherwise you run the risk of the timing being out and likely down on power .

Xenons are an easy retro fit, cost £150ish and regularly come up for sale on here.

The gearboxes aren't the best but the worst case scenario is that they need a £250 refurb. They're old cars now so if you want a perfect example you're going to have to replace a few 10 year old bushes etc.

Hi mate

thanks for the above info, if the car I find hasn't had the Sachs rebuild or cambelt I'll be knocking some cash off lol and booking her straight in for it. Like my edition 30 I'll be changing tonnes of the bushes to superpro ones and also the engine mounts for a stiff car.

seen your from West Sussex, I live in lingfield but always always in Crawley as all our friends still live there + our work is there and that's where we're buying a house, You local to Crawley?

wheres good for work being done around our way?

Not much in way of traders, there's either Rentech in Portsmouth, or Mike Woodford in Staines as far as I know.

I live in Worthing so not too far away from you mate!

I can do most things myself to be honest but things like rebuilding Sachs and gearbox refurbishment is beyond my skills.

not to far at all mate, is there many meets around this way? not a fan of McDonald's car parks lol but general meets at brands Etc are good too go too
