Newbie from the North

Hi everyone,

Just joined up after finding a link to CS from my other home, the Lancer Register.
I've got a month left at Uni, then I'm away back to Aberdeen on the rigs. My plan was to get an Evo7 and leave it at home (Near Newcastle), but after months of pondering :dapprove: I've realised how ludicrous (and expensive) its going to be.

So the next best thing to getting an Evo (So I've heard) would be a RS of somesort.

Has anyone got any advice for me? I'm probs looking for one around £6-7k, but don't know what I should be looking for in terms of what the different models of 172/182 there are. Plus any major issues as well I guess.

Any help would be much appreciated,

J

Welcome to CS.

I would do a search quick on models differences.

In Brief:
Phase 1 172 - Older shape.
Phase 2 172 - Newer shape.
172 Cup - As above but stripped out, different wheels and spoiler, Blue or silver paint.
182 - Updated Phase 2 172, styling changes, exhaust, wheels etc.
182 with cup packs as above, with grey wheels revised suspension, and spolier packs of the 172 cup.
182 Cup, stripped out 182, but with both Cup packs as standard. Racing Blue or Inferno colours.
182 Trophy, as above, red paint, speedline wheels, recaros as standard, V6 rear spolier, expensive saches suspesion, limited to 500 cars.

Each have pros and cons, and ther own niggles!

Hey Rich,

Thanks for your reply, thats bang on what I was looking for. So what would be an average price of a 172 Cup in good condition with lowish miles? Would that be around my price range of 6-7k?

life on the MLR with a 106 must be difficult.

imo 6-7k would get you a mk2 172/172cup. im sure you could get one with 30k i would say. i dont think you could get a 182 with that budget.

Yeah lol, I didn't say I had one in my profile. Still really fancy an Evolution but its far too expensive. I'd be chuffed with a 172Cup, have you got a pic of a Mk2 you can link me to for a look Jamie?

^ Worth bearing in mind the poor mans interior in the cup and the probable lack of air con and definately no ABS. IMO I'd go for a Mk1 172 and have good budget left for diff. wheels, suspension and anything else you may fancy. Or find a Mk2 172 on turinis or something.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Blue4ever - what do you mean about the interior? are we talking harder bucket seats?

the 172 cup has a manky cloth interior, a rear benhc resembling that of a church pew, and no abs/air con etc

if you get the phase 2 172, you get automatic climate control, leather and alcantara seats, automatic xenon headlights, automatic wipers, ABS, ESP (electronic stability control) etc.. and a spare wheel.

personally i wouldnt want to spend over 6k on a car without leather/aircon/abs..

So normal mk2 172 is the best one to go for by the sounds of things, are the interiors the same colour in all of the 172's?
And Guy- were u rolling on the rim in ur avatar???

Hey Blunty-think i need to attend a meet, they generally a good turnout?
