Newbie help!

  Seat Leon Cupra R (225)
Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, so please be gentle!

I'm seriously considering selling my Seat Leon Cupra R and buying a Clio 172/182 as a cost saving measure. I'm looking to spend 6-8k. I think this will limit me to the 172, although I have seen some higher mileage 182's come into this price bracket. As it will be used most days to travel 30 miles to and from work, I'm thinking of avoiding the cup?

If anyone has any suggestions of things I should look for or avoid I would be extremely grateful

I chopped in my LCR for a Trophy but I only use my car at the weekends... I don't know about full fats etc... but the LCR is more comfortable than the Trophy over long distances, and 6th gear makes a big difference, especially on a rev hungry engine!

The brakes and tyres are lasting better on the Trophy though. The LCR burned through pads and tyres in 7K (with 1 track day), whereas the Trophy is approaching 10K and the tyres are still good...

I recognise your name from SeatCupra.Net. I'm rather hoping to get something thats fun but still comfy for the journey to work and cheap.

You won't see me on SCN anymore! One of the admins is a total tw&t and we disagreed over his attitude. I called him childish and he banned me!!!!

Anyway on a car front if you want something comfy and cheap a high mileage RS may not be best!?! My Trophy rattles and squeaks like there's no tomorrow and the LCR was far more comfortable over long distances!

What about a Diesel Ibiza!?!?

I agree with that to a point, but what i would say is that if you want to go for something in your price range then a mint 172 FF can be found. I bought mine for bang on 7k on an 03 plate from a dealer. No rattles as yet. Although, I'm waiting

Agreed, its not going to ride the bumps as easily as a Cupra, but at the same time, it should be more forgiving than a trophy, given the suspension setup. :D

SCN and SCN admins do seem a bit agressive at times.

What do you mean by a high mileage RS? I was talkign about a low mileage 20-30K Clio 172. I'm confused now.

I'm hoping that the FF172 will be a little more subdued than the trophy. To be fair comfy isn't the main requirement. It must be cheaper than the LCR to buy and run, fun and comfy but not neccisarily in equal measures.

I think I'm trying to relive my youth in a 5GTT.

Just when you start approach rear brake/cam belt time etc...

Is it true that the rear brakes are a whole unit and you can't just replace the pads!?!?
