Newbie - Williams engined 5 GT

  Renault 5 1.8 16V
Evening all, I own a car that dosnt realy fit on the 5 turbo forums and may not fit here.

Well thats see, I am Pete novice racer and just purchased my new race/track toy

renault 5 GT with Williams clio engine big set of webbers, fully stripped rady to race.

Like to chat to any other Williams Clio owners to see what else can be done to these engines and boxes, as most parts seem the the same on both cars.

Hi and welcome.

Interesting mix of renault sport you got there. Are you actually racing it or just for the track? If so what series?

Bloody hell a lively bunch on here.

I have ordered new polycarb windows today and new pads, the car is a bit of a hybrid still trying to find more out about the car shes on a Q plate waiting for dvla to come back with log book.

Engine has meant to have had some head work and cams (no proof of that), it has coilovers on front with adjustable top plates, it has been turreted on the rear, the engine bay is A1 3 inch thick purpose buit ali rad so that the webbers point out of front grile remote oil housing, oil cooler etc.

I have yet to drive in anger as I want to go throught the car in a little more detail as need to re comissioned.

I will be tracking, (mot'ing if possible so i can liven my m40 run once in a while) and racing. I currently race in the Tintops series 40 min enduro but I need to get regs changed as meant for cars with original engines, however I managed to get my 1.8 metro included last season, if not then possible the LMA series looks good.

Not sure if this will come out but as she was collected

One question I have is how do you identify a williams engine?

thats gonna be a serious weapon!

I hope so:D my last toy was a 145bhp metro gti which put a smile on my face on track days especially when you out corner and brake a 25K + car.

I have a fealing they are much like a renault easy swap engines and boxes about.

the standard dodge was buy a metro gti £500 quid with an mot (1.4 105bhp)
buy a vvc engine from mgf and wiring harness (£3-800) 143 bhp

swap flywheels from 1.4 to vvc engine refit splice in car loom to new ecu loom change alarm module and key flob ( as key alarm & ecu coded) fit the 1.4 55mm throttle body bin the cat and you have a 150 bhp car weighing less than 800. for under £1000 if you lucky

I am hoping my 5 will be much like this:D

Fookin hell thats gotta weight nothing lol

I hope you've got a williams engine lol they are far superior to the 1.8 (f7p's) units....you should have a f7r badge on the block

I've been thinking of racing in the Tintops series, whats it like? I know they are at Brands this weekend.

How do you think my clio cup 16v (blueprinted 1.816v 150bhp) would do in class C? The MG always seems to be at the front of the bunch...

The clio would fit well, one of the ZR's is a 190 spec the other is 160, the protons are ex works cars as is the CRX and are quick.

We had a ex britcar clio out flipping quick

Good friendly series no nutters but some close racing, we will be trying a new format later this season 2 x 30 mintue races for 1 entry fee + 30 min practise for 1 or 2 driver.
Good valaue and on most circuits we get a garage

I am on the comittee for the series so I am a little bias:D

Trying to get some history on car, I believe conversion was done by a firm 5 alive
It runs very well, I have booxed a trackday in november at bedford chasing elises which has always been a good hobby.

Awaiting logbook so can see if she will go through mot, depends on year I spose as if it was a late 5 no chance of a cat working with a set of webbers:(

Hopefully it will be a early Mk2.

Aim is to get the car out and about this year, slicks and cut slicks have now arrived so ready all weathers!
