Nikon + Dragster chute

  Oil Burner
A guy that i follow on twitter/facebook/his blog was shooting dragsters yesterday and his remote camera got caught by the chute of a crashing dragster.

Resulting in a 400 2.8 and d700 reduced to component parts.

Well worth following his blog: http://markjrebilas.com/blog/

It did at least result in a cool photo for him...

Worst of all is that during the crash the memory card came out of the camera, which he thinks was swept up by the course sweeper. So he didn't even get any photos from the rig!

Considering he puts remote cameras up at pretty much every event he shoots he has done very well not to have lost of a camera until now.

Lol. He doesn't seem that pissed about it.

Cameras left alone are always a recipe for disaster. Always see them at football matches getting smacked by the ball and flying around.

Shadowness, its his camera.

At the end of the day its just doing its job. One of the points of a remote rig is that you can put it in places that you wouldn't want to stand.

I wish that i earnt enough from my photos to justify remote rigs and risking loosing one.

A few other rigs of his that spring to mind...

His blog is superb. That will keep me occupied reading that for a while. Quite interesting to read too. Not just 'Here's a picture, here's another one'

I want to go storm chasing but whenever we ever get lightning, it's accompanied by fooking rain :(

Its a good read. What i like is the difference in styles between the UK and US.

If i shot the shutter speeds he does my photos would look pants.

I suppose he would be insured but a sight like that would reduce me to tears! Thanks for sharing, his blog should be a good read.

He has since found the CF card. There was also a suggestion of sending the lens into Nikon for repair, listing the fault as wont AF lol

Also he isnt insured. The body was already damaged, so was no great loss. But the 400 to replace will be pricey, all part of being a pro i guess.

The last shot the remote camera took before it was totalled

Apparently the driver who hit it wants to talk to Mark (photographer), nobody knows if its for a bollocking or to give him a new camera....
