If you are going to do any homebrew on the DS you will need:
A "pass" device
A "media storage device" such as a supercard or a mass media dock, or m3 or whatever
some software
I recommend http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/
The msn program on there is good, although I havent tried the new version, the previous one was rather flakey and the input sucked.
