Nitro mors paint stripper?

I've had a go at refurbing my oz f1's but like a complete numpty, I didn't sand enough and I sprayed on the layers to thick to quickly.

Now.. I don't fancy paying to have them refurbed as I also want my mirror covers done at the same time to match the wheels, but nowhere will do it for me that I've tried due to the covers being plastic.

Brings me onto the question about nitro mors. Will it be effective in stripping the halfords rattle can paint I used and allowing to restart the refurb/respray proceedure?

Aye it should take it off no problem. It's pretty lethal, not as bad as it used to be though.

Does not sound like a good idea to me mate! How bad is the finish you've got?

Where abouts in Brum are you? If your local to me dont mind having a look and seeing if they are salvageable.

I've been having mixed reports, most good stuff about it and it will sort me right out. It's just because I've sprayed to many layers on too thick and I didn't remove all the marks correctly. I'd of thought they'd be salvageable?!

I'd rub it down again TBH mate. That s**t will stay on there and you probably won't get a decent finish on it again!

You can get tamer paint strippers!

Sorry I meant salvagable without resorting to Nitro mors!

My issue with using a chemical to strip the paint is it affecting the metal and causing you issues with reactions when you come to paint them again.

event though it's on fairly thick you reckon sanding down is the best option?

any other strippers you can recommend that maybe won't cause a reaction when i come to repaint?

I'd just sand them down again. Some of the bits you missed first time will be filled in with paint now so that will help a bit.

should i use the wet and dry i used before or proper sandpaper to get rid of the paint that's on there now?

I always prefer to start high, and if it doesn't remove the damage then go lower. Saves putting any unnecessary huge scratches in it. I'd start with about 800 wetndry depending on how bad it is.

I would honestly not dabble with nitro.

Just take them to a wheel specialist, the problem begins with not taking the tyre off the rim. Moisture gets under the paint, bubbles the paint, you need to start again...

Friend of mine took my plastic bits down with a scotch pad in a matter of seconds with 3/4 coats of primer on and paint underneith.

Not sure on metal though, be worth sanding back down to smooth and spraying over if they're rough. But I too have made the same mistake as too much too quick, paint go'es blotchy etc.

just go to yellow pages and get them sandblasted.... they can do it with fine sand it wont effect the finish of the metal.

so you reckon sandblasting could be a better option then mucking around trying again. i suppose at least they'll take it back to the original stage without causing any harm to the wheel?

nitro mors is nasty stuff for wheels, it leaves it all lumpy (the paint that it cant strip) and makes it a pain in the backside to flatten down so might aswell just flatten it all by hand.
i nitro'd 1 wheel and did the rest by hand

if i was to flatten it all down by hand myself. what grades of wet and dry should i get?

start 60, then 80, 240, 600, 1500 wet and dry grades?

something like that?

i dont know if this is the best way of doing it but i did 800 then 1200. my wheels were done by myself before so the paint was easy to come off.

Get them sandblasted (£10 a wheel) and start from scratch.

Painting over a poorly prepared surface will just cause you grief 6 months down the line.

i suppose if i get them sandblasted i may as well just have them refurbed properly. maybe a more expensive option but bloody easier it looks like.

I'd offer to do them for you but ive got nowhere free to do them at the moment.

that's ok mate no bother. ill prob just book them into laptab in the week to get sorted out. i've had two sets done there before so i know it's a good finish.
