No drive and crunching when clutch disengaged......

Was driving slowly in traffic then suddenly a crunching noise as if i missed a gear, coming to a stop at a red light i then tried pulling away and theres a horrible crunching/grinding noise when disengaging clutch and trying to accelerate. i had to push car round a corner on my own in rush hour traffic with every1 watching lol although a man in a mclaren formula 1 tshirt did finally help
Ive already had a renfort circlip plate fitted a few months back.

mechanic has car now just wanted a heads up if anyone has any idea what it could be? he ruled out driveshafts as there not turning so is it gearbox/diff related? cheers

I think you've answered your question... Drop the box oil, remover the drive shaft and I bet the plate isn't secured

it was the plate with 8 holes as well.......what seems to be my next option new gearbox?
