NO OIL!

  ValverInBits
yup! thats only a litre! only had a 10er on me and that was £9.86 ! is that the right stuff? its only for now ? til the morning!

you've been ripped.
That stuff is fine. 5w40 or 10w40 is fine. You will need more than a litre though. Basically, put that in and if the oil isnt in the safe zone on the dipstick don't run it.
Also you need to check it frequently until you know how much oil it's using/what sort of driving uses more (ie motorway).
You can then start to diagnose a problem if you have one.

not buying the same stuff as a bought today its wel pricey! will it be ok to mix it with some other stuff? say some halfrauds brand or somethings becuase im not paying 20quid for 2L!

  ValverInBits
it's fine there, but the first trip you should make is to buy more oil.

edit: yes you can mix. just get another 10W40 semi or fully synthetic.

  Range Rover sport
should it be ok after that? no cutting out etc? tbh i dotn know why it cut out on me at that amount of revs? shuldnt cut out etc .. with a little bit of oil? or should it?

  Range Rover sport

lol just flush it out with water before putting the new oil in ;)

Checking the oil should be a weekly thing!

I don't understand why you won't buy a few litres of oil and just pour it in?? Even the cheapest oil will be better then when you were driving without any oil in it at all.

ffs stop being so tight and buy some more oil unless you want to start a thread entitled "Engine wanted!" lol.

  Range Rover sport
lmao dont worry im not that stupd to pour water in it! poured 1L of oil in last night! havnt run it yet! mechanic said this morning the cutting out will be the fuel cut of switch becuase its a saftey feature when the oil is so low ! or something along those lines! (jeremy) if you cant read mate! i put oil in it yesterday! i was only worried on why it cut out! not buying oil!

  Lionel Richie
he's talking rubbish then, the engine won't cut out if its low on oil

5L of can be had for £20 no bother

  Range Rover sport
what you think it is then? shal i go get more oil now? fill it up so there plenty in there, then let it run til its warm! go for a drive take it to 3.500revs see if it cuts out again?

urm becuase theres nower i can go to get oil right this moment! im not running the car tho! and plus why the f**k does eveeryone keep thinkin its my fault? what you want me to do check my dipstick every half hour incase i need to top up! it was fine 5 weeks ago or so.. so didnt fink it wuld need more do you? plus the light on the dash didnt come up so what indication did i have to think to check it? NONE!!

all i can get hold of at the moment is 10w 40 oil! is that ok or not?

It's no one elses fault.

If it's lost near enough 5 litres of oil in 5 weeks, I'd imagine wherever you park it then there is not only a stain, but a slick of oil. How could you not notice it tbh.

there is no oil leak anywere! the only other thing i can think of it must be burning oil like hell!

  Range Rover sport
doesnt matter i ll find out the problem myself! well try! no1 seems to be helping on here! just taking the piss!

Lol

But some of the questions have just about had me creasing with laughter.

Sorry bud.

Any oil, even asda smartprice is better than nowt.

As for £20 for 2 litres, if thats what i costs thats what it costs.
The joys of motoring i'm afraid bud.

Wanna buy a 172 ? :rasp:

Check all around engine (underneath down sides etc etc) it should be dry no oil anywhere if there is trace it back.

You never know you may find a leak.
Check around the oil filter and sump/drain plug too to see if they are leaking at all as they aint tight enough.

And take it to a different garage once the oil level is up to second mark on dipstickor in between.

f**k going back to the boy that went on about cut off switch, WHAT A LOAD OF b****cks.

Also google search or search on here for "coil pack" it may be of help.
Problems/symptoms in those threads may be same as your (Cutting out at 3500rpm)

Because as said before low oil aint the problem causing cutting out.
That'll only happen when too late and engine seizes :rasp:

i had this problem,1 week oil was fine next it was bone dry,it seems to happen every now and again with me for some reason

Have you been low on petrol recently? Cos if you start to run out, the engine uses the oil instead of the petrol!! Then the gear box oil, then the washer fluid iirc.

All this LOLing is making me want to check my oil...

NathJ, you remind me of my missus. Bless 'er.

Just checked my oil because of this thread, Its inbetween min and max.

Ive got a 1.2. What oil is ok to top up with?

Im getting it serviced in jan or feb, This is just for now.

  172 cup
get some oil in there sharpish! dosnt matter what there is nothing wrong with mixing old and new oil . . . never heard that before in my life

  Citroen DS3 White
Maybe it's a fable from battery folklore about never mixing old and new...

Never understood that either though.

Can i just say, that on a 2001 1.2 dynamique it will cut out if the oil was low, mine did, and it wouldnt start again until the oil was topped up!!

  Range Rover sport
cheers (aliengravy) oil is now topped up and had plety in and does NOT cut out at 3.500 revs! cheers anyway guys!

Too much oil is bad news too lad, make sure you dont over fill it. 3/4 between the 2 notches is ideal.
