No sound from youtube/myspace

A mate of mine has just got a new computer. Problem is he doesnt hear any sound on youtube videos and myspace music. But all other audio is fine.

I told him it might be his codecs. He didnt have a MPEG layer-3 codec so I gave him an installer, still nothing?

What else could it be? :S

is it somewhere in sound and devices where you can check boxes to say play all these media types etc.. something like that not totally sure tbh sorry :S
