Noise when turned off 172/cup

Does anyone else experience a rather unconcerting noise when theyve turned the ignition off or when its on idle after a bit of a blast?

It sounds a bit like someone hitting the underneath of the car on the exhaust with a small hammer (probably about twice a second going down to once every 2 seconds and then stops altogether)

I presume it is something to do with getting rid of heat?

yup it just contracting as it cools lol nothing to worry about most cars do this when driven hard hehe if people hear it then they just know you been giving it a bit of right foot lol

no, nothing to do with getting rid of the heat; it actually is a little man hitting the exhaust with a hammer. I caught mine and Ive now forced him to live in the boot as a punishment. But I still get the same noise after a long run even if hes safely locked away in the boot. Which is odd. ;)

at night, he sleeps in the offside rear wheel - to catch him, crawl down by the wheel and make a noise like your car starting. As he leaps up with the hammer (its only a small one) to tap the exhaust, then thats when you grab the little bastardo and say call that a hammer?. Then youve got him. Factamundo.

Mine must be a fidgety little git, he keeps moving around the car. He likes the boot, but from time to time loves the dashboard just behind the display!!!

At least weve got this cleared up now. I thought there was a skeleton in a biscuit tin cracking one off in my boot!!! :D

I had the Reno LMET (Little Man Elimination Team) at it the other week. They fixed the seat knocking. The parcel shelf I can live with (its a hatch so I expect it), but Ill most likely have a look over the bank holiday weekend. Might just want some padding out at the corners to hold it still. The one behind the display comes and goes. Ive noticed it more on cold days, obviously when warmer the plastic expands and traps the little mailto:b@stard">b@stard preventing him doing any more hammering!!!

Hmm - this confirms my suspicions.

My little chap seems to prefer hiding behind the dashboard now that the PIPE (Personal Invention for Permanently rEmoving hearing) has been installed. How can I tempt him into the open? Leave some cheese out for him?

What does he eat?

Ah thats okay then - Im not English :D

Not sure where Ill find snails tho - think it would look a bit suss with loads of snail trails over the seats etc

Unfortunately I couldnt catch the man in my car, he appears to be a little bit to quick for me!

Little does he know I have a cunning plan, Im currently driving the car as much as possible until he inevitably (being Francais) has to go on strike!

Chris, you sure hes not jumped into my car, since we last met up hes been banging at my back quarter trying to get out, I keep hitting him, but he keeps coming back for more!;)

good thinking Carlo!! next time youre driving, why not saying something aloud like my the EUs planning to ban lunchtime across Europe soon. That should do the trick!

Teady - you could be right! My PIPE my well have scared him off and now youll have two of the buggers - perhaps making little baby noisy hammerers in your back quarter

Wait until your bro isnt about and then try and tempt them into his car with pictures of Gerard Depadieu and Serge Gainsboug on the stereo - shouldnt be too hard to find Neils collection of Serges Greatest Hits ;)

Do not get the little man angry. He is actually a lost Leprechaun and if you are not nice to him he will take his little hammer to your engine and you will be sorry...

Let him tap away in peace.

And Mycroft would have explained why our cars a crap and the Soarer is the best car on the road today. His posts keep me occupied for hours. :) They would insist on biting every time too.

Ive just remembered what I did to the dash. I thumped it good and hard. Must have concussed the little fella.
