My alternator has recently become very noisy on startup.
When the car is cold, when you first start it, the alternator sort of intermittently whines, its almost melodic, in that it comes and goes every 2 seconds for about 3 seconds at a time. Its bordering on a light grinding sound, almost as if something is stiff.
Oddly though, im sure its working fine as the car always keeps its charge, even after battery-intensive short night trips where all the lights, radio and wipers are going.
Ive had a quick go at spraying some WD40 behind the pulley with the aux belt, but its not really solved anything - it sounds as if its more an internal thing.
Any suggestions other than the standard "its knackered, throw the whole thing in the sea and spend £30k on a new car?
