Noisy power steering.

Hi my power steering pump sounds like I have a supercharger on my Clio 182, is there anything I can do to quieten it down?

Ok thanks are they expensive?
It’s getting hold of them that’s the issue pal.

They also get noisy if they're pulling in air, so check for leaks and change the fluid before buying a new pump. The switch on these does leak occasionally.

Mine did this, full flush with Motul Dexron III has quiet it down. I have also had a leak through a cracked switch which wouldn't of helped.

I also have a spare pump to try if the noise comes back 🙈

I've bought a couple of pressure switches off Amazon, I believe they're about £13. From experience though, once they're noisy, they don't quieten down.

The power steering pump on my 182 had been whining for years, but the last month or so was very noisy when cold, for the first 5 mins or so.
I got a 2nd hand pump and had it changed at Birchdown a couple of weeks ago. It's almost silent now.
This is how it sounded when I turned the steering wheel 😮

On my old Cup mine sounded like that after a day at Cadwell 😬

I did this on my driveway 4 times MLB.

Each time I changed the pump the whine got louder until the 4th time when in a rage I put the original back on and decided it was quiet enough.

Slam panel off, aux tensioner compressed with jubilee clip, aux belt off, alternator out, aux belt tensioner off and you can wiggle the pump out, think I had to take the pullet off to get enough room but its not difficult.

I'm contemplating of doing mine myself this summer, but trying to figure out how much I can be arsed as I've got s**t loads to do on the house and garden as well.

So it is still quite tempting to just buy that pump you told me not to buy and dump the lot at Birchdown as the Clio needs an MOT anyway.

@Mr Trailer Man doesn't sound too bad, I've done the jubilee thing a couple of times already and tensioner etc is relatively new so should still compress.

Except that I've got to take apart the contraption I built to keep the airconditioning and alternator together with the RS2 sitting on top of everything 😂

No mate. But I can remember it being a right wiggle to get out the bracket, i think i unbolted the pulley in place which let me wiggle it out, also with the tensioner fully removed.

Yeah we did the same and still seemed stuck, but came straight out when we removed the AC pump (his isn't connected, just acting as another idler pulley 😅)

Like there didn't seem to be enough room for it to drop down here
