Non-Genuine Standard Exhaust

  Focus
Hello!

I'm putting my 172 back to standard but have got a bit of a deliberation, I've asked a guy I work with (storeman) to sort me out a standard exhaust. I said I wanted geniune really, genuine was £270 inc vat! He's tracked me down a "premium" non-gen one for £110 with a 3 year warranty, they all seem to come in non-gen around this price.

Is it worth going for? Or am I really worth spending the extra and going genuine? Am I going to see any performance losses going for non-gen?

In the mean time I've found a genuine one on ebay which I can get for £230 inc delivery.

Have the non-gen one arriving tomorrow but will keep/send back depending on the responses from here, I've been assured by him that the brand it is is a decent brand, and the products they sell are decent.

Thanks! :approve:

Sorry not sure if I confused you but the one for £110 is a pattern part from Central Auto Supplies.

I was talking about the £270, 1*2 exahusts are stupid money for genuine, think a 182 one is £800, thats why everybody uses stainless ones.

Recently looked for "non genuine" ones for a 182, and when ordered they all come as 1.2 exhausts. So just double check.

I paid £113 for a rear AND centre box from ECP but I got about 15% off at the time. Still very cheap. Ring the Wembley branch and have a word, all the other branches are clueless.

Thanks for the advice guys, did you notice any performance/noise difference Patrick?

pattern part exhaust are rubbish if you decide to go on the track as montana found out on sunday melted his back bumper

it melted a hole were the tip is roughly due to the tip from the rear can is slightly longer than a orginal

here is a picture of the damage caused from my 15mins at Rockingham at FCS. I can only put it down to the design of the exhaust tip on the pattern part item (Klaruis item i think)

The above picture doesnt look to bad but when you look underneath...

The pattern part item is louder than the genuine item on before and its also impossible to seal at the center section to back box join (I fitted a replacement center section at the same time), with my next (& probably final) attempt at sealing it i am temped to use the majority of my remaining high temp silicone to guarantee a seal

In summary - pattern part exhaust = DONT BOTHER!

Ouch that looks pretty bad montana lol.

I'm not entirely sure on the brand (I've just been well informed their products tend to be top notch). Do you think it's just a 1 off and a bad design on the pattern part companys part?

Been advised the one I've ordered comes with a 3 year warranty, surely there is some kind of come back on the company for the damage??

Also I think the bottom line for me (even after seeing that horrendous damage) is the massive price difference. I'm looking at saving £120 over buying genuine, quite a bit.

I had a non-gen back box fitted last June.
I now need another one.
Thankfully there is a 2-year warranty so not worried too much.

Buy cheap, buy twice (or not 'buy' as is the case here)

Right, fitted both centre and back box and what a load of old crap!!

Fitted perfect, but the backbox has such a small end (not sure of the exact terminology) it is actually LOUDER than my milltek, and it's not a pleasent noise either, sounds like I've got a massive blow when I haven't!!

Frustratingly the whole idea of getting the standard exhaust was to make my becoming more regular longer journeys less of a chore, leaving for manchester at 6 in the morning with that piece of old rubbish is really going to drone.

Looking into getting a genuine backbox as we speak.. :(

Sealed perfect, infact watching techie mate fit it he couldn't believe how well it fitted, it just came up on the invoice from central auto supplies (cas) as "premium exhaust". I've PMed lee.
