Noo the dream could be over before it's began



I just purchased my 172 on Thursday I have had many a cars from civic type r s integras allsorts bt I love my Clio to bits unfortunatly on the way home tonite it's lost loades of power and is running lumpy even on idle looking at the history of the car it's been advised the cat be replaced so iam starting to think it may possible be that the cat has broken up therefore blocking the exaust system making it difficult for the engine to breath. I just hope it is nothing major I no a cats a costly repair bt if it is that I will replace it with a De cat anyway enogth of my ranting just makes me feel better gettin it off my chest has anyone else came across this problem

There's a cat on ebay for £100 at the moment, if the worst comes to the worst get that instead of going to Renault and paying £300. I got a replacement for about £50 delivered when I had my 182.

i agree it could be your cat thats bust but i wouldnt worry buddy its not the end of the world at the end of the day you can always get a new cat and exhaust off of ebay or from a breakers yard or someone else that sells car bits cheap what colour 172 did you get do you like it how are you finding it so far pretty harsh for someone to sell you a car that bust straight away when it went did the lights come on on the dash to say you had a fault or did it go into limp mode or anything like where it runs at 3000rpm and wont let you go any higher thats quite annoying that hope you get it sorted mate

A broken Cat isn't the end of the world, secong hand ones often come up for less than £100 on here and ebay. Or like you said, buy a decat.

the one on Ebay I got for £75 delivered, ( suffolk) inc postage- which is a tadge high than I wanted but its not bad-

Get one of the specialists to have a look, might not be the cat as such,maybe a knackered lambder ( spelling?) sensor on the CAT as these effect the ECU

I would make sure it is the cat first, I'd take it out and just see if the engine runs any better - might be a bit noisy but it's only for a minute and at least then you would know.

Buy a decat and never have to worry about it again! costs so much less aswell lol just need to waver the MOT lol
 
Ok took the cat of today and road tested it not only did it go well and anoy everyone with in a short distance cause of the noise but it ran perfect so I went with the option of replacing it with a de cat pipe which I ordered this morning and should be with me tomorow. Do you have to do anything with the sensors on the cat as when I fitted a de cat to my civic I had to put a dummy o2 sensor to send a signal to the ecu to stop the engine management light coming on

Some people get the engine management light come on. Mine had both the lamba sensors in as normal and it never came on.

Will you also have to buy a cat to get it to pass the next MOT though? I think my cat is blowing at the moment, looks like there is a bodged patch on it as well, i do have a de cat pipe but concerened about the MOT.
 
Well put the de cat on to day and it still doesn't run well at all. It's like it's kangarooing under load any ideas anyone some one suggested plugs or coil pack

coil packs or a good set of plugs is a good start if your doing it yourself or just get it plugged into a diagnostics....
 
Changed coil pack and plugs and all appears to be running fine so hopefully all is fixed the emissions lite is on but I've put that down to the de cat pipe
