Noob brake question

Car  BMW F30 / Clio 182
Hi there,

Being a bit of an idiot, I've taken a look at my 197 calipers and for the life of me can't figure out how to remove them for disks and remove the pads.

Am I missing a trick here? Look massively different to standard calipers

No need to remove the calipers. Just knock the 2 retaining pins out and the pads can be removed.

If you want to remove them, the standard bolt is a 12mm female hex head bolt. Remove them and the caliper can be removed.

Cheers, the retaining pins as in the springy ones over the pads, or the 2 that go straight through the calipers?

The two that go through the calipers. Be prepared for them to be stuck solid tho!

Oh goody! I've seen these rebuild kits

Is it worth just refreshing them at the same time?

Yeah I'd buy that before you start the job. Or you could find the car is stuck up in the air with no brakes until they arrive.
You can guess how I know.
