typically a wheel wax will give better durability as it will hopefully stand up to the higher temperatures, but I've only ever used rim wax, Coli 476, AG HD wax and C5.
As long as you keep on top of it your wax won't do any worse unless you compare it to the proper wheel sealants from GTechniq, Nanolex, Cquartz
The difference being a dedicated wheel "wax" will be produced using waxes with a higher melting point (usually synthetic) to withstand the heat generated by the breaks that is transfered in to the wheels, this heat will premurturly break down most normal "body waxes". Thats the main difference, we go another step further in that we wanted a product the can be applied, and cure fully to be removed a wheel at a time, rather than having to go around all the wheels putting it on then back again taking it all off, so you can sit and treat one wheel at a time.
I'd imagine most specific wheel waxes are more like a sealant so a chemical wax as opposed to a lot of the carnauba based ones you put on the bodywork.
To be honest though as much as I like CG's Wheel Guard, I can imagine a sealant type wax like Collinite or Finishkare will do just as good a job.
Suppose thinking about it now the heat thing is an obvious one!
I gave them a couple of coats so hopefully it will at least help with the cleaning over the winter!
It will just melt off, Joe. No chance it'll last until November, let alone through to New Year (unless its garbed and the wheels are not subjected to any movement/braking).
Gtech C5 is the main one people use. However i think i'm going to try the new raceglaze one due to ease and i don't mind topping up once a month if necessary.
