Not what I need before FCS...

I noticed on the way to work today a ticking/knocking sound coming from the front brakes...I tried to ignore it and hoped it would go away.

On the way home from work I noticed the sound again so I guess I'd better sort it out.

The brake discs have quite a biggish lip on them and they seem to of had a good life but I am no mechanic so haven't a clue if they need replacing. The ticking noise comes on when the brakes warm up and gets louder/more noticable the hotter they get. So if they aren't used for a while then you don't hear the sound as they have cooled down. They don't appear to fade and the pads look fine to me.

Could it be that I need some new front brake discs? I'm going to try and get them looked at before FCS but I doubt very much this will be sorted before it. If I can't get it sorted I'm not really prepared to risk my car, my life and others for a 500 mile trip on dodgy brakes :dapprove: But there is always next year.

if theres a lip on the disc, then 9 times out of 10, they need replacing. Have a look through your spokesat your pads, and see how much meat is left on them too

The pads look fine to me... plenty of "meat" on them hehe

you can take the discs off and file the ridge down until its even, and just clean the discs and pads with a good quality brake cleaner. wont do them any harm

cheers for the advice but I wouldn't trust myself doing that... plus I don't have the tools.

all you gotta do is take your wheels off, get a screwdriver and hammer and chisel around the edge of the disc until all the corrosion comes off. then just spray the brake cleaner over it. what area are you in?

you will be early for fcs
discs looks pretty worn.. get some brembo max on there.

them discs are fooked m8. no amount of chisselling or brake cleaner will help that m8!!!!!!
