Now got?!

  Clio 1.4 RT 1995
I have now got enough money to deal with the prob of having to change the engine of my 1.4 RT 1995 5dr, but i was just woundering what everyone else thought on this problem...

Ignition is turned,
Starter motor goes does its thing,
so does alternator,
but nothing else happens, no firing no other engine noise, why may this be?

and how much in each case would you say it would cost to sort out roughly!?

many thanks, Vince!

pull a plug out connect it up hold it close to a peice of metal with a pair of insulated pliers and crank her over, you should see an arc between the 2

finally i have just got round to checking the plugs, no sparks on any of them, and they are al in the condition they should be, some one else said maybe my cambelt, but i would still expect the sparks, and when i had no plugs in in the search for a spark i also found out that i had compression as i had air being forced through the 4 holes, which in turn means that my pistons are moving, there fore i dont think it would be possible that my cambelt may have snapped?

so what could be causing my no spark? ideas and help appreciated many thanks "partyboy23"

if its not even turning over, have you tryed the battery? check you have enough power to turn it over... if your not getting a spark could be rotor arm or dizy or it could even be your HT coil...

like you did with the spark plugs take the main HT lead off and put a electric screw driver into the end (this becomes your spark plug) try arc ing it on some metal, (not the engine) if the spark isnt even making it that far then its eather the battery or the HT coil, or even the HT leads broken down.....

if thats all ok then start to check the main earths.... there should be one on the starter motor and one somewhere else in the bay... and if thats all ok then you need to get ya self a volt meter and start testing everything...

sounds like your engines locked.... have you tryed turning over by hand? ratchit on the big pottom pully and try turnign it round, if it all moves round then its the starter motor, if it dont then you have prob bent valves,
personaly i think its starter motor or electrical... have you tryed the check i listed above?

well with the list above, i assumed that if my rotor arm isnt turning then i shouldnt expect a spark anyhow, so there would be no need to check HT leads of the coil, as even if i changed all of this it still wouldnt move, what big bottom pulley are you on about mate?

The one attached to the crank at the bottom of the engine.... its the big bottom pully at the bottom of the cam belt
