Picked up my new 182 and Im lovin it... Cant really see what the car can do because its new but still its fantastic. Keep lookin at it throught the window... Cant believe how it feels... Clarkson was rite, it makes you happy... I smile every time Ive drove it.
oh and run it in hard, get it upto temp then cane the sh*t out of it, dont wait 700 odd miles as long as the engine and oil is upto temp give it hell youll end up with a quicker car that way
The last person I spoke to was saying "do a steady 500 miles then after that start pushing it round roundabouts and corners for another 500 to get the suspention worn in".
pah suspension doesnt need wearing in but as you are new to the car then its best not to hammer into bends until you are comfortable with the handling. im talking about straight line blasts with regaurds to running the engine in, dont worry about revving hard from new like some people suggest just give it death as soon as the engine is warm.
Gunna go to bed. Roll on tomorrow. (cant go out now, been drinking)
Cant wait a frien of mines got a new Clio 1.4 and he hates me now Ive got a 182. His dads got a Focus St170. He thinks the ST will kill the 182.... Kids.... If only he knew!
If you run the engine hard, it should give you more power, but in the long run the engine wont last as long...the more mileage the 172/182 engine does, the better it feels...mine felt better after hitting 10K than it did below that mark.
I cant believe how quick and sharp the 182 feels. I used to have a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo and if it wasnt for the turbo the Clio feels neally the same. That was good for embaressing Scoobys and Evos.
IVE GOT A 54 CLIO AS WELL. ALSO TAKINMG IT SLOW. DONE 140 MILES NOW AND GRADUALLY WINDING IT UP WHEN ENGINE WARM. THE JURY DOES SEEM HUNG ON THIS ISSUE BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES JUST TO MAKE SURE NOTHING FALLS OFF
MY MATE PICKED UP A NEW ELISE AND RAZZED AROUND A ROUNDABOUT AFTER ONLY A FEW MILES. THE FRONT WHEEL WAS SEEN SHOOTING AHEAD OF HIM AT A GREAT RATE OF KNOTS. VERY EMBARRASSING FOR THE DEALER!!
Any technical reason why wearing it in hard makes it a "faster" car?
I test drove 2 clios, 1 with 130miles on the clock and 1 with about 12Kmiles on the clock. In the low mileage 1 you could feel a definate Kick at 5K revs but in the other 1 you couldnt feel it as much and i know for definate the the higher mileage car had been caned from new cos my mate who took me out init works at reg vardy and said every 1 there whod had it ragged it to death. maybe though the difference was that the other car was still very tight and just that the 5Krevs kick was more noticeable?!?!?

ask BenR if you want the jargon but basically forces the rings out harder into the bores and scrubbs them creating a better seal/ better compression etc
