NTL Suck

  Volvo S60 T5
Got the basic NTL package and it costs £55 quid a month, thats phone/tv/broadband.
Today I went out and got a DVB aireal and set it up, get more channels free on that than I do on NTL only one I'm gutted I wont get is SKY 1/2.
They charge 24.99 for 1meg broadband.

So decided I'm gona cancel my NTL service all of it, wana save some cash as moneys a bit tight at the moment.

What you recommend for Broadband and telephone?
:S

bulldog, ukonline and wanadoo were all mentioned in the metro yesterday.

i got NTL at the moment, 24.99 for 2mb and its crap, they need to reduce there prices.

I'm with NTL at the moment. I tried to cancel the broadband as they were taking the pi$$ with the price. We sent them a letter saying we'll cancel after the month (which is the notice the require) but they won't let us leave. Even though we cancelled the Direct debit. They continue to send letters saying we haven't paid.

If anyone knows how to leave them then i'd love to know.

You shouldn't be paying 24.99 for 1Mb....isn't it 17.99 or something now? I'm on 10Mb and I find it quite good, although their customer service is crap when I have to phone them. Otherwise it's been faultless for 4 or 5 years I've had broadband from them. As for the caps.....I've been downloading 200Gb a month for the last year and they haven't complained once :rasp:

Be wary of ADSL providers advertising lots of bandwidth....you usually only get this if you live within 3 inches of the telephone exchange. The problem with ADSL is that the bandwidth drops off a great deal over distance.

It's difficult to say what the "best provider" is as it varies a great deal from region to region. Best bet is to ask your neighbours what they use.

everyone at work has loads of problems with them.

They dont let you cancel and just carry on providing the service, they then send you the bill

Wrong... How many times are poeple going to post this...

Firstly you're confusing bandwidth with speed and secondly distance has nothing to do with anything. It's a bit more complicated than that.

Ring and tell them your moving house (and find an area outside of their supply), instant cancellation for me.

NTL are always trouble, end of. I'm with freedom to surf. They've been very good, never had a problem with speeds or connection. As they've never given me a problem I can't comment on customer service but when I set up they seemed good. I'll be sticking with them when renewal comes I think.

Ever considered changing your phone to sky talk , my bills dropped slightly when i changed over from BT .
Never had a problem with NTL ( touch wood ) . Been with em over 4 years now , not the cheapest but in all that time i've only lost connection twice .
Bulldog are crap from what a mate tells me . His connection was always dropping , could never get the 8mb they said he " might " get , more like 4 mb if he was lucky.
Phone line never worked so he couldn't receive incoming calls .

Isn't Bulldog owned by Telewest ? Which is owned by NTL ??

Here, here! The official 'line' is that we're on 2MB broadband with Wanadoo. But because the phone line into our house was laid when Cromwell was giving the Royals some jip, I can't break the 512k mark.... :(

Had bulldog now for nearly 6 months no disconnection problems after the first week. and downloads i regularly see 900kb/s down speeds. so speed is perfect.

and phone line not a problem. same for a mate who has it as well. could just be his actual line not being that good.

Nope it's owned by Cable and Wireless but they are about to write it off and move onto new ventures.

So far they've invested so much money into bulldog it equates to £1500 per customer in return. As a result you can see why they are keen to off load Bulldog asap.

I used to be with NTL and to be honest the service was great unless you needed to actually call their customer services, then thats when the hassle starts.

I'm on ADSL for broadband now, but am actually considering going back to NTL just for broadand. Reason? I will save money as i wont have to pay line rental for a BT phone line I never use.. Thats' what free mobile minutes are for. I hate having to pay for a phone line just to get broadband.

Wouldn't go back to their TV though, will always stick with Sky. The broadband is the best part of the services they offer imo.

They upgraded our broadband to 1Mb (for free) but it's limited to 3Gb a month. If you buy it now its unrestricted each month, and for the same price.

Its anoying having a 3Gb limit!!!
