Nurburgring 2011 - Picture & Write Up Thread

Just got back from what can only be described as an awesome weekend, if you haven't been to the ring then go, if you have been, then go again, I certainly will be. It's a MUST for any petrol head.

Did 4 laps in the 182, clocked a 10:40, which isn't too bad considering I had no idea where I was going and had to slow for a couple of crashes whilst on track. Also spent alot of time getting out of faster cars way, so had to go off line and missed a few Apex's, the locals are mentally fast round there. Only problems I had was cooking my power steering fluid (which I think will end up costing me a pump) and a cracked RS192 Exhaust (email into scorpion about this).

4 Days, 4 countries, 4 laps, 1208 miles....

The Convoy, my 182, a CTDI Astra Van (mapped to 200bhp) and a 911 Carrera S2 (I think, either way, it looks nice, sounds nice and goes well!)

Location of the hotel couldn't have been better. On the GP circuit pit straight....

Now just some sights of the weekend.....There was also a VLN Race on whilst we were there.
Sabina Schmitz's team came 2nd and were in our hotel bar briefly, the time my camera was on charge! (Major Fail!)

And now the ones that really matter....

All in all an awesome weekend. Expensive yes, worth it though.

Hard to say exactly, as the credit card statement is still updating! We chose a more expensive hotel for the location of being on the GP circuit straight.

I've done a quick calculation, sharing fuel, hotel costs, and train costs.
Own food/beer/laps/fuel for laps/misc expenses/souveniers etc comes in at just under £600...

id definately take the vee round though, would be a circa 17 minute lap as i wouldnt want to stuff it lmao!

Glad you had a good time, I was there a few weeks ago Never seen so many meganes, bmw's, and porsches before.
Did you go out as a passenger in the 911?

Next time Im going in a ring taxi, and taking the hire E92 M3 out from RSR nurburg.

When I went money spent over 7 days.
£515 euros taken.
1 lap of the ring, alot of petrol, food, stickers, go karting twice, museum, = 405 euros worth.
THEN spent 110 euros on a hoodie, hat from the ring, and booze in the duty free.

PREPAID.
£80 hotel - an hours drive from the ring. - not any cheaper really because of petrol prices.
£40 ferry
375 euros - 4 laps in a clio 200 cup from rsr nurburg
£56 - 1 week of AA euro cover
£7 - Virgin travel insurance

£50 ish on getting the stuff to drive legally over there, extinguisher, hi vis jackets, beam converters, spare bulbs, spare HID bulbs (extra £50), triangle, etc

SO a few less days, a closer hotel, and no car hire would have been alot cheaper.

If anyone decides to go, make sure your satnav has euro maps!!!

Whats the reason for that ? Yes there are cheaper hotels available, but there was something on ALL weekend on the GP Circuit to which we had the perfect viewing spot.

OK, I was aware of the STR Campaign. I stayed in the Dorint, I'm not completely sure if thats involved with the government but it is a new hotel so it could be.

Aside from that, and will brush it under the carpet now as don't want this to ruin what was an awesome weekend.

Thanks for this. I was looking at going while a VLN was on next year so i could see some action but was unsure how it affected the times for the touristfahrten.

How did you manage to cook your PAS fluid?

top end of 2nd into 3rd lock to lock whilst hammering around 13 miles twice wouldn't have helped. TBH I reckon the pump was on the way out, and now it needs replacing as its not powering a great deal at all!

It's the best experience I've ever had and also recommend it to anyone who's not been. I also spent around 400 quid all in so it can be done 'cheaply.' although saying that, I did use the free redline vouchers for my laps. There's a little holiday home village just round the corner from the ring, nice big house that sleeps six. That was 575 euros for 4 nights. Can't remember what the place called but it began with L lol

my brother lives an hour or so away from the ring (by bike) and keeps teasing me with stories of his ring experiences on his bike, so i really need to make the trip over to his and have a go, and threads like these makes me want to go even more lol,
