OBD Wifi scanner not working/slow response

Wasn't really sure where to post this, but I got a wifi ELM327 adapter off eBay today. Tried it out with various apps off the App Store and they either didn't work at all, or once they did work, the refresh rate from the live data was about once every second or more.

Compare this to a similar one my mate has on his astra (Bluetooth, not wifi) and the data is literally instantaneous. It's like having proper analogue gauges.

How come mine is so slow? Is it just because its wifi and not bluetooth, or is it possibly an issue with the adapter itself?

I haven't had a chance to try it on my mates or vice versa, but I tried it on my brothers Seat Leon last night and it was just as slow using my phone, and didn't even work with his. Starting to think its faulty or something

I thought all Scanners were cable to OBD socket .
If your talking about an OBD dongle thing that sends info from your car to an app on your phone , I thought it would def have to be Bluetooth .
How is it going to work out on the road whilst driving over wifi , surely it won't

All the iPhone compatible ones are wifi. Apple don't allow the right bluetooth services for them to work with bluetooth, so the phone connects straight to the scanner just like you'd connect to the wifi router in your house.
Still not sure what the issue is with it though, probably down to the fact it was a cheap ebay number!

Nah, any settings are contained within whatever app you decide to use with it. Tried various ones with various settings, some worked a bit better than others but they were all still pretty slow to respond

I'm actually looking into buying a Bluetooth one off eBay - but as you quite rightly said Apple don't allow it - so I've got to jailbreak it.
Apparently it works so much better over Bluetooth .

I can vouch for this one...

I replaced the previous one I had for this one for two reasons, 1) this one's much much smaller...it means I can fit it then close the dash panel that it hides beneath instead of having it flapping open all the time, and 2) faster response...this one works with 'Torque' to increase sampling speeds (samples comfortably at 0.1s).

Works brilliantly so far.

Looks like I need to get an android phone lol...everyone seems to have so much more luck using Torque than anything I've tried on an iPhone! Is it usually the phone/app that has control over the data sampling rate, or does it depend on how good the OBD scanner is?
