Oil Change on dci

  "Navy" N17 TWO
**I can only find a thread for the 172 oil-change**

How exactly do I change the oil on a dci ?
Do I need anything other than;

Jack or lift
Oil
Filter
Container to catch the oil

Cheers

You also need:

New washer for the oil plug in the sump.
Oil filter removal tool - very cheap. I gave about £10 for it.
Tools for removing the engine protection plate underneath the car.
Tools for removing the oil plug in the sump.
And a funnel when you fill the new oil on the engine.

You first have to jack up the car. Then remove the engine protection plate underneath the car. Then you can see the oil plug in the sump. Open the bonnet and remove the oil plug (so fresh air can get in). Remove the oil plug underneath the car and catch the oil in the container. Let it stand about 15 min. Then mount the oil plug in the engine sump with the new washer. Mount the protection plate back on. Jack down the car. Use the funnel and fill some new oil in. Screw the oil plug on again and close the bonnet. Job done.

How do you remove the protection plate & sump plug - where is it located and what tools are used?

Also a little dilemma - I can't get a jack under my skirts :(

If you cant get a jack under it then you a fucked :rasp: LOL

Then the only way is using a grease pit. Because you have to get under the car to remove the protection plate and oil sump plug.

Yeh that's the other thing, I can't get it over the pit at my usual mechanic as the front bumper won't allow  so I'm looking for alternatives

You can do it on normal height DCIs without jacking it up, but if you can't get the jack under it'll be tight getting the drain pan & sump tool in there without a mess.

You want to get a low lift jack, or use planks of wood under both front wheels, then drive on the bits of wood (lifts the car) or use this method over the pit

You dont need to raise the vehicle on mine to do an oil change a 2004 Dci 100.

As for the plastic cover underneath there is a circular cut out to gain access to sump plug so no need for its removal.

I find a cat litter tray for a couple of quid fits nicely underneath to catch the old oil.

Half an hour of a job.

You can get pumps that hook up to your battery and pump the oil out your sump via the dipstick hole. I used to have one, til it broke!!!

Saves you having to go near the sump plug, therefore no jacking involved.
have an ask at a Motorist Centre. Not Halfrauds though they're w*nk.

When I asked about one in there recently, they looked at me like I was a nutter.

Dont know where my original one came from, cos it was a present.

It really saved a lot of d*icking around.

Just jack the rear axle up a bit since that higher, them jack the front up. Or just drive onto a curb etc.

Im lookin to do my oil change tommorow and was just about to ask the question on carrying out the change on a DCI engine.

Bit confused now, do or do I not have to remove the engine protection plate under the car

I think Ive got everything:

New Oil Filter
Steel (I Think) sump plug washer
New Shell Helix 5w40 oil
Funnel

Just wondering how difficult it will be to remove the oil filter and any tips on refitting, like not over tightening.

Also, what sort of tool and what size is used to remove the sump plug.

Thanks

8mm square sump nut £3 or so form Halfords etc

Sump p[lug washer should be metyal with a rubber insert. Not the copper one thats for the gearbox and Mk1 cars etc.

Easy to do the filter etc just do it hand tight it up.

No need to remove the under floor thing theres a hole in it to get to the sump nut but if its your right time I'd take the sump guard off lets you see what your doing more.
