Oil Change?

  "Navy" N17 TWO
My last change was on the 36k service and there is almost 46k on it now - keep having to top up a bit more often than normal
So I think a flush and change would go down well after Xmas, even if the 48k service is only a few months away

personally i would avoid engine flushes as you can't guarantee your gonna drain it all out aferwards plus on my corsa i got an oil leak from the camshaft seal after using it, however that might just be coincidence

+1 on the forte stuff, forbid from a member on here and it seemed to work but no way of really knowing.
Oh, great craic!
I've used the FORTE flush before and everything was fine :)

I seen it the other day just curious see if anyone recommends it as its cheap.

But i will stick to 5w 40 castrol.[/]

Alot of people say castrol is rubbish and over priced. Only reason people use it is because it's on tv and most racing games.

I personally finds Fuchs stuff (Titan,gt1,Titan race and silkolene great) and decently priced. Opie oils is good for choice but gsf usually has dome Fuchs 5-40 cheaper than opie oils.

So what oil do people reccomend? Any 5-40 fully synthetic? I used to change the oil every 5k on my 106gti, will be doing the same to the Trophy.

Fuchs is good, millers, gulf anything really as long as it's fully synthetic. If your tracking it or constantly driving it hard then a ester synthetic is good like Titan race, silkolene or royal purple but that's alot pricer.

I am currently looking at this on the opie oils site, under the upgrade service pack

Our service pack for your PETROL RENAULT CLIO RENAULTSPORT TROPHY 182 1998cc (2005 - 2005) consists of 6 litres of Silkolene PRO S 5W-40 Ester Synthetic Oil For High Performance Engines in 1x 5 litres, 1x 1 litres and an OIL FILTER: UFI spin-on oil filter 23.418.00 single £65.25

Do people think its worth it?

  2004 182FF
That isn't as you dont get the 1l free and also the filter isn't genuine and you don't get a sump plug washer (only like, 10p but just annoying).

I'd do This at member price of £46 (cliosport members are members) (Fuchs Titan is Silkloene Pro S new name) note the "To receive your Free litre of Oil for every 5 Litres purchased just add 5 Litres to your basket - We'll do the rest"

And either pick up the oil filter and sump plug from a Renault Dealer (well under £10) or from here.

6l of Pro S, Genuine filter & sump plug washer.
Total £53.50.

As to whether the oils worth it? Yes totally.

Edit: 1l free deal ends tonight.

You can get Millers oil from your local supplier for FAR less than opie... I can buy 10W60 CFS from my local place for a shade over £30 from my local factors :) (Used the 10W60 in my previous car).

tbh aslong as an oil has the relevant ratings on it then its going to be 'fine', esp if you are hammering the changes every 5 mins. Tescos wont make the oil, they will just buy it from some wholesaler, much like ALL the others.

As for the service intervals, the engine design engineers would dictate when the relevant fluids/filters should be changed after many many many many years worth of testing is carried out. Tough luck if its 1mile or 50k miles lol. But if the dephaser is taking a kicking from too long a service interval then I'd put that to the costdown folks putting a cheaper and nastier item in without getting the right level of testing done (I've seen that kind of thing done more times that I care to remember lol)

Get the UFI filter from opie oils, thats what i get when i get the service pack deal, there like a performance oil filter, all do the same job anyhow

When did ufi become a performance oil filter??? or have i missed something? A few people have turned up wih them recently with there own oil must be where there coming from!!

Wouldn't be putting one on my clio thats for sure, when a genuine filter is £7.

Elf, as per renault! Unless someone supplies there own, or someone wants cheaper, then we use carlube 5/40!

  Clio dCi65 Dynamique
Anybody know who makes Tesco 5w40?? Must be a relabelled big name brand methinks... £27 for 5L is a potential bargain to be had.

What's the Gulf Competition 5 40w on special on Opie oils at the moment? Over the last two years I've done about 13k and changed the oil twice using the Silkolene off them, but I'm tempted by the price of the Gulf 5 40 fully synthetic as I'm about to order this week.

^ I wondered about that, nice hefty discount.

Would you say f1 and moto gp is performance? ive had 2 on my clio now and ive had no problems

For me it's just about service history. I can explain using Silkolene as it's a premium oil and I do it every 6 months so I'm giving it better than required care... but with an oil filter not using genuine just looks a bit cheap, even if it IS a 'performance' part. For the sake of a few quid having genuine filters & plugs for servicing looks a lot better.

Well yes, Just my opinion. and the fact they cost about £2, must be cheap for a reason!?

Fred, what filters do formula reanults use?!?!

They cost nearly £5, and i only get one because i get it on the service pack and it saves on more postage costs or me going for renault for one,

could well be but i wouldn't like to use it, maybe me just being snobby but i like to stick to a brand , as i said earlier carlube and filter can be had from ECP for 27 delivered (it meets the Renault RN0700 standard too)

everyone has their favourite oils , but more importantly is getting the oil change in at the right intervals (5~6 k )

'genuine' renault filters will be made by anyone who can make the filter to OEM spec and then branded as Reggie..... they will then knock out a load under their own branding and sell for a pittance of the price of the reggie branded part.

I personally think the fitler is pish tiny to make it 12 months and while irritatingly naff, a 6 monthly change would be wise. Hell look at the VAG pd engine and the size of their filter which lasts 2 years ffs

OEM is purflux, the race cars use OE filters (Renault ones, by purflux, same filter you have on your road car from a dealer)

Priced one today, £3.17 including VAT, i knew they were half the price of a genuine jobbie!! It's all personal preference like, but i would pay £7 for an oem one all day long instead.

I only got the £5 price from opie site, but like you said it's personal preference, and mine is only on for about 4k miles before it's changed

FWIW @Fred@BTM once cut up 3 filters for a Clio Sport 1*2 and these were his findings:

Left: Purflux/Renault ; non return flap with a double spring valve
Middle ; Mann ; Non Return Flap - Single Spring valve
Right ; Unipart ; no return flap or valve, allegedly leaking everywhere the engine was.

This was done back in January.

Yup, all filters are the same...
