oil pressure dropping @ 5000 RPM

I have noticed that the oil pressure drops of fast at 5000RPM. It's fine all the way up to 4500RPM, where the oil pressure increases with RPM. At 5000 it starts to drop and by 6000 it's almost at 0 bar.... I have check the oil level and have made sure it's at 95% of what it should be. The oil pressure also drops when turning hard into a right hand bend (have tried it on a left hander yet)....

Can anyone think of a reason for this and a solution to the problem?

Regards,

Rossa

General information:
Car has done 128000 miles
The pressure is at 3 bar when at 3000RPM and the oil temp is 100C

  BMW M135i
I'd be thinking oil pump but i'm sure someone with more experience of valvers will come along with a more definite answer.

I change the oil every 5000 - 6000 miles, with good oil.... it is due a change. Not sure how older oil would have this effect.

Does anyone know the trip point for the oil pressure switch - ie the point at which the red light will come on?

dodgy connection to the oil pressure sender.

The light will come on at 5PSI pressure, so if it comes on when drivign and your going hard the engines done before it comes on.

Thanks...

Can anyone tell me where the oil pressure sender unit is? I know the pressure switch is next to the oil filter...

oil light sender is on the front of the engine, alternator area

oil pressure gauge sender is on the back of the engine towards the cam belt end of the engine

its next to the exhaust manifold. mine can be seen really easily but i currently do not have an exhaust manifold heat shield. Its quite big for a sensor, its round and screwed straight into the block on the drivers side of the engine (offside)

The oil pressure light sensor is under the inlet manifold somewhere but if your light works then i doubt there is a problem with it

Thanks...

I've been looking, when you say heat sheild do you mean the one on top of the starter motor?
Is this sender easier to from under?

it should be black, if its white then thats the problem as the whites were recalled an dchanged for the black ones.

Another pic, its on the right with the single purple wire goign to it

often its a corrded mess so it may just break away.

well that explains why mine is so easy to see, i dont have that heashild that sits over the top of it. Looks like im missing quite a few heatshields

I wouldn't worry mate.... less weight!

I just have this image of me trying to take this sender out and it breaking leaving a mess!
