Oil pressure Urgent help needed!

  Mrs' valver! &myV6 veccy

What sort of oil pressure does a valver usually run at idle??

Need to know quickly coz either my bottom end has gone or my cams are fcuked.

The car is ticking over a bit more before it starts and the powers been sapped big time when running. Theres a loud clacking noise at about 2500 rpm and the noise doesnt stop over those revs.

Ideas anyone? Its either the cams or bottom end surely?

Help appreciated!

The oil guage is cr4p anyway but it looks good, for example mine runs on 3 bar when I am flat out and Night.Icons runs at just under 6 bar but both cars are healthy.. Go figure !

No definitely summut big gone.

Coz the powers gone all of a sudden. Tappets cant do that surely?

Plus its ticking over more in order to start it.

0 - 1 bar sounds right. Mines been very close to the bottom & thought it mightve been losing oil pressure, but when i rev it it goes up so that must mean the bottom ends ok surely?

Dont trust the guage!

Should be around 1 bar at idle when fully warmed up, not much less anyway.

Low oil pressure is usually bottom end.

Ive given the symptoms, so if anyone has ideas please let me know!

Just had to get my trusty old RT valver lookalike out the closet again! Never lets me down! But nearly had 20 crashes when i first went out in it due to lack of brakes!

Alex,

Your symptoms are suggestive of big end bearing failure or partial failure. It will only get worse and will probably cease up completely within the next few miles.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but seen it many times before. Do you keep plenty of oil in it?

Can not tell without hearing it, but a "clacking" is an accurate description of big ends.

Oh dear, look out wallet!

Thanks for help guys, appreciated. Now you mention it mate, it used a bit of oil lately and was due for a top up, but it went before i could do it!

Oh well, ive been looking for an excuse to get a 2 litre bottom end and high lift cams! & i can get round to that re-spray at last!

Anyone know how much nick hill would charge for that sorta work done????

Cheers guys.
