Oil where Inlet connects to head....

  1 of 19 Recaro'd 182 Cups
Had a poke around in the bay on my cup last night, if you look through the gaps in the Plenum at where the Inlet joins the head there seems to be oil leaking slightly all the way along the join, slightly more the closer you get to the cam cover.....

I didnt think there was oil in that part....is it normal or do i need to replace the gasket? I could probs do it myself, i heard theres a nightmare bolt though? How much is the gasket?

Cheers in advance.

I had this.

It's not oil coming from the inlet joint, it's oil leaking from the cam cover and cover bolts pooling on the inlet manifold.

Not to hard a fix (depending on the leak) I followed Fred's advice and removed the top half of the inlet, cleaned up the oil and then systematically went round each cam cover bolt, took them out one at a time, cleaned them, put a blob of silicone sealant under the head of each one and then tightened to the correct torque (i believe it's 12nm, can someone confirm?)

Anyhow, That fixed it for me.

Donut.

Thanks for the reply, i thought it was a bit strange to see oil coming though a joint where there is no Oil, and it would explain there being slightly more closer to the cambelt cover.

Ill wack the plenum off at the weekend(presuming i dont need to change any gaskets to do that) clean it up and have a look at the bolts on the cam cover. Where does the oil come from to get inside the cam cover and then leak out through the bolts? is that normal? ie. sealing the bolts to stop it coming through?

When Dounut said 'Cam cover' bolts i thought he ment the plastic cover that covers the camblet, lol. Muppet. So by Cam cover he means 'rocker cover'. Will a new gasket solve that? Is it even worth bothering with?

The rocker cover doesn't have a gasket unfortunately mon frere. It's sealed with silicone. It holds the cams and bearings in place so is a MAJOR ball ache to take off by all accounts, instead just do the cam/rocker cover bolts as described and that should sort it.
