A decent sized garage is something I dream of tbh.

You'll need buckets/towels/brushes/mitts/shampoos/wheel brushes to start, along with glass cleaner/polish with interior stuff on the list aswell.

Leaf blower/dryer? More serious but if you want perfection it'll help.

They do detailing specific ones now.

Paint guage is roughly £300+
2nd hand might be okay tho, check ebay maybe.

There is definitely money to be made if you have the time.

There is a GB on DW for PDG's. £140 posted!

My advice would be to buy stuff bit by bit mate. Detailing isn't as easy as it sounds, you need really commitment and drive to do it properly and make money out of it.

I for one would never be able to do it for a living.

It is VERY rewarding though - both as a hobby and as a job.

With regards to machine polisher - depends on budget. If your budget is massive get a festool or a chicago. If not so massive got a kestrel (thats if were talking rotorys). If we are talking DA your wanting to be looking at the DAS-6 or the Megs G220. The megs feels better built and is more expensive but the DAS6 is just as good in reality.

Interior vac, if your doing it properly get a wet vac. Only way your ever going to get an interior in mint condition. If its just a good hoover id reccomend a henry! (don't know much about wet vacs so can't reccomend specific brands, i suggest you contact JimWu as he uses wetvacs).

Pressure washer - I can't reccomend the Nilfisk alto range enough. I have a c120 and its awesome.

Your just getting into detailing, and your contemplating getting a PTG ?

Are you doing this for personal gratification (your own car, and family members) or do you want to get into the business side of things?

I started 3 years ago now (personal hobby), and ive gradually progressed through different tools and products and settled with a select few. I still dont have a PTG and until i can afford to wipe my ass with £20 notes I wont get one. I jumped into the deep end on my old car with a G220 without knowing what the results would be and had no scrap pannels for testing purposes.

Ill give you my C&C either way, whether you choose to take it or not is up to you, some things might suit you better than others.

- Machine polishers.

Started with a G220, i broke 4, and the G220's limitations soon became apparent but it took me a while to grow a pair of balls and buy a rotary. Now i have used the rotary, i regret ever buying the G220. Its far quicker, more capable and i feel the results are better. Its not some scary machine like everyone makes out, but the only real issue is from compounding with a cutting pad. The heat build up is something to watch out for and ill be honest, ive warped my mums bonnet doing it once although i was lucky not to burn through, and the pannel popped back in place as it cooled down. Using a polishing pad and polish is no big deal though. The G220 is very safe though and for an in experienced user a very useful tool to start with.

- Pressure washer

Well. Karcher does it for me. I have a karcher 2.97. Its lasted me 2 years so far and gets weekly use. I had a 2.19 before this and it broke down after about 4 months. Obviously youll benefit from a foam lance and snowfoam.

I can offer you my personal opinion on products such as waxes, polishes, anything ive used. Doesnt mean what i use is the best out there and i fully agree and encourage trying something new, i generally stick with what i know works but even now i always try something new just for the crack.

Hope this helps a bit.

The only choice for an interior vacuum has a happy little face.

Such a versatile bugger he is, cheeky scamp.

He ate one of my socks yesterday. Ripped it right out of my hand. Ruined a perfectly good pair of Minnie Mouse socks. <3 Henry.

No need to put my two pennies worth in, but you do need deep pockets! If using a rotary I would suggest getting a ptg, I wouldnt be without mine!

Thankyou for the above info! Very helpful!

Just personal thing for now tbh, just do little jobs on weekend. want to get plenty of practice in on old pannels etc

I know the basics with everything bar machine polishing, hence why I'm wanting to get myself on a course. Then practice practice practice!!!

Need to get a good pressure washer n wetvack asap, then polish machine after done the course... Then paint depth once I am fully confident with polishing.

Loads of little things to do and UNO it's all expensive but budget for gear is around 1K between me and my friend.. But obv over time buyig bit bye bit we will have more money.

Sounds all good! Roll on the good weather and practice! See how things go for a weekend hobby!
