Your just getting into detailing, and your contemplating getting a PTG ?
Are you doing this for personal gratification (your own car, and family members) or do you want to get into the business side of things?
I started 3 years ago now (personal hobby), and ive gradually progressed through different tools and products and settled with a select few. I still dont have a PTG and until i can afford to wipe my ass with £20 notes I wont get one. I jumped into the deep end on my old car with a G220 without knowing what the results would be and had no scrap pannels for testing purposes.
Ill give you my C&C either way, whether you choose to take it or not is up to you, some things might suit you better than others.
- Machine polishers.
Started with a G220, i broke 4, and the G220's limitations soon became apparent but it took me a while to grow a pair of balls and buy a rotary. Now i have used the rotary, i regret ever buying the G220. Its far quicker, more capable and i feel the results are better. Its not some scary machine like everyone makes out, but the only real issue is from compounding with a cutting pad. The heat build up is something to watch out for and ill be honest, ive warped my mums bonnet doing it once although i was lucky not to burn through, and the pannel popped back in place as it cooled down. Using a polishing pad and polish is no big deal though. The G220 is very safe though and for an in experienced user a very useful tool to start with.
- Pressure washer
Well. Karcher does it for me. I have a karcher 2.97. Its lasted me 2 years so far and gets weekly use. I had a 2.19 before this and it broke down after about 4 months. Obviously youll benefit from a foam lance and snowfoam.
I can offer you my personal opinion on products such as waxes, polishes, anything ive used. Doesnt mean what i use is the best out there and i fully agree and encourage trying something new, i generally stick with what i know works but even now i always try something new just for the crack.
Hope this helps a bit.
