Old pads new Disc's??

  Track 172 Cup
Quick one I have a set of carbon Lorraine pads which had plenty of life left in them BUT I think I have a slightly warped drivers side disc as when I was filtering in traffic back from Oulton park I could hear a very faint squeak..............squeak.................squeak at low speed and when I picked up the pace a little could hear what sounded like the pad was rubbing, so I'm thinking either a disc is warped (due to only hearing the squeak every other second or so) or a caliper piston is sticking, how would I check this or free it off? assume strip and clean is there a guide in case I need too do it? causing the disc to warp as the passenger side seems fine. Anyway can I buy new disc's and use the old pads? don't really wanna waste the CL pads as they aren't cheap. Car is 95% used on track sometimes driven to Oulton or on the road going to have work done not daily.

Cheers guy's

I would say yes no problem, but others may/will disagree. I've done it on the race car before.

Thanks Tony like I say its MAINLY used for track, I was just going to get the life out of them but think I'm getting some heat issues from the disc or caliper. Might not even be the disc as I don't get any vibration or feel anything through the steering wheel even under hard braking. Could this be the caliper as opposed to the disc being warped slightly? or do you not get any vibration or feeling all the time with a warped disc?

  dan's cast offs.
probably just a rough patch where pad has sat on the disc and rusted slightly. get one a nice long stretch of road get to about 70ish and stomp on the brakes, let off at about 10mph and let the car roll to a stop, do not touch the brakes even the handbrake. wait for a good few minutes, five if you can. repeat this a few times and see how they go from there, if you can't feel any pulsing through the pedal i would't worry about it anyway.

You would def feel a vibration of some sort if it was a disc. Never had a warped disc so wouldn't know, don't know how people can do it really.
As bloke says, high spot on pad, but nothing to worry about.

Doubt you've warped a disc mate, it's pretty hard to do that.

Could the pad be seized in the caliper, there should be a bit of vertical movement between the pad and the carrier and not wedged in tight.

I'll have a look tomorrow if I get chance to go see the car. I need to check some things out on the car just not enough hours in the day lol.

Thanks for the help guys and I'll try what you said @bloke and see if that helps.

Warped disc is hard to detect at town speeds, but will vibrate and sound like a droning noise if you stomp on the brakes hard from 70 down to a low speed, can't mistake it. I wouldn't worry about re-using the pads unless your old discs have significant scoring buddy.

Gee.

Didn't get anything @ Oulton park on Tuesday and came from some decent speeds to slow and back on the go pedal and had no vibration or anything.

Gee.

Warped discs are very, very rare. More likely to be a high spot and pad deposits.

Do as has been suggested, I have to clean my discs up now and again as my XP10's need abused to keep them running at best and use the above mentioned technique.

I wouldn't be too worried about old pads on new discs, Ive done it before with no issues. Just make sure you flatten the pad material off so it is level as they can sometimes wear uneven and won't properly bed to the new discs.
