Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project
Thanks; I've been running the GAZ kit for roughly a year now and there's been no leaking thus far, result I think!
lol!
2011
I've a rough list of things/ideas to get through in 2011, the most comprehensive being the throttle bodies I mentioned previously.
Throughout 2010 the car's had a few modifications and changes! A quick photo of how it's looking/sitting now, before I attempt to run through the plans for the coming year.
As above, after much research and changing my mind, I've decided to persue the ITB route. I'm sure there are more options out there, but I could really see 3 ways to go in terms of which physical 'bodies to use; AT Power DTH, K-Tec DTH or the Webber Alpha's. I've decided on the AT Power kit, it seems as though they're spoken highly of by those that are using/have used them.
The only downside I've come across while reading about them is that they can place a bit of stress on the single cable throttle after a while, so this could be something worth looking into to improve reliability in the future.
Purchasing the throttle bodies will be the first step in the project, which I'm hoping the sort during January/February. From there, I'll be collecting the other parts that are needed and deciding on which management to use. As mentioned above, the favorite is looking to be the Engine Control EC1, however, I may end up going another route such as Gen90 or Go-Tech yet; there's plenty of time to decide!
Other things I'd like to get done; replace the wheel nuts and generally give the hubs a tidy up. I've always really liked the iridescent effect nuts (jdm style, I guess?) so I'm hoping I can find these in the correct size for the Clio. I feel, at the moment, the gruby rusty looking hubs and old discoloured nuts let the look of the wheels down some what.
I'm going to finally get around to removing the front fog lights and running cold air feeds through to the front arches to help cool the brakes. I'm assuming this will also mean that the carbon canister will need to be binned.
With regards to my brake setup, for some reason, the braided brake line on the front offside is pulling tight when on full lock. I've tried every possible route around the strut, but it still pulls tight; something that I'm not really happy leaving as it is. Mark at JamSport has said he'll get Earls (who supplied the lines in the original 4-pot kit) to make me a set of slightly longer lines to replace them, which is fantastic.
There was also mention a while back about the possibility of JamSport producing separate bells and rotors for use with their 4-pot kit. If this goes ahead, I'll be changing my discs for this setup.
The only other modification I really want to do is replace the steering wheel. The standard item is way past its best and the right hand thumb grip has now split completely :dapprove: I'll most likely be replacing with a black suede aftermarket wheel.
Finally, I also need to get the car to a dent removal specialist. Over the winter months the nearside rear quarter appears to have taken quite a few knocks from doors in carparks! I've counted about 5 small car-park dents in there. Very annoying, as I always put a lot of work into keeping my cars looking their tidiest and best. Still, I'm hoping it's a cheap enough fix. I had this number of dents sorted previously and it was only about £90.
If you've read down to hear and aren't asleep, thanks! :rasp: I'll update this thread as things progress; the next update should be the purchase of the throttle bodies.
