Ollie's Silver Cup - JMS RS2/Wilwood/2118

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Remote locking decided to give up yesterday evening :dapprove:

I parked up, got out the car, pressed the button on the key and nothing happened. My first thought being the battery in the key had died, but when I got home and tried the other key, there was still nothing.

The central locking is still working (RAID works fine, as does hitting the lock/unlock button on the centre console) it's just appears as though it's failing to receive the remote signal from the keys.

I can get the car locked so it's secure, however, it's very annoying and obviously the alarm's not active. I'm going to disconnect the battery later in the hope that it'll clear it...

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Similar thing happened to my key, turned out to be the little copper coil inside the key that had broke - but that was only one key, and had to press the lock button inside, then lock via drivers door. When a guy came out he reprogrammed (and bodged) the key, when I found the spare he simply came round and reprogrammed both keys and car, took around 5mins - maybe just need reprogramming?

I'm hoping disconnecting the battery will clear it; from searching and reading a few threads on here, it seems people have resolved the same issue by doing that :)

And it did, all sorted. Easy fix for a stupid problem

Also, to write a bit of an update in regards to plans for new year and the way it will progress.

After researching as much as possible, and reading through countless threads, I've decided to push on and pursue an ITB conversion on the cup. I was continually changing my mind whether to go for the JMS manifold or throttle bodies; the JMS looks to be a fantastic product, but throttle bodies had always been the more long term plan for the car, so I'd like to pursue that :approve:

A direct to head kit seems the way to go with it, so it really gives two options; AT Power or the KTR kit.

Based on the excellent feedback they seem to receive, I believe I'll be going with the AT Power kit;

The plan is for this to be a bit of a project to see me through to the summer; I'll hopefully be collecting all the parts needed and then take it from there re fitting and mapping.

Again, I need to look into the management side of thing a little more, as there seems to be a number of options. However, the EC1 look favorite for me at the moment! :D

I'll obviously update this thread accordingly... :)

Nice Plans... I had thought about ITBs but decided on the JMS Manifold instead!

Hopefully by end of Feb early March it will be all fitted (I have just paid the deposit)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Thanks. For a while, I was also looking into the JMS manifold; it is very appealing.

I'm wanting to have the bodies in January/February, but it will be a while until I've collected everything else and had it fitted/mapped. :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

first time ive looked at this thread, just read the whole thing. Lovley car you have :D
ive got the Gaz coilovers too, good bit of jit for the money. The back on mine is all the way down (tire in line with the arch)
and the front is about 55mm down, going to bring that down a bit more though. I prefer the nose down look.
Keep up the good work mate! Will be pucker with the itb's

the car looks beut in the pictures but in real life its 10 x better even my dad likes it ( he hates mine :( )

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Thanks; I've been running the GAZ kit for roughly a year now and there's been no leaking thus far, result I think! ;) lol!

2011

I've a rough list of things/ideas to get through in 2011, the most comprehensive being the throttle bodies I mentioned previously.

Throughout 2010 the car's had a few modifications and changes! A quick photo of how it's looking/sitting now, before I attempt to run through the plans for the coming year.

5111020033_801ca818a8_z.jpg

As above, after much research and changing my mind, I've decided to persue the ITB route. I'm sure there are more options out there, but I could really see 3 ways to go in terms of which physical 'bodies to use; AT Power DTH, K-Tec DTH or the Webber Alpha's. I've decided on the AT Power kit, it seems as though they're spoken highly of by those that are using/have used them.

The only downside I've come across while reading about them is that they can place a bit of stress on the single cable throttle after a while, so this could be something worth looking into to improve reliability in the future.

Purchasing the throttle bodies will be the first step in the project, which I'm hoping the sort during January/February. From there, I'll be collecting the other parts that are needed and deciding on which management to use. As mentioned above, the favorite is looking to be the Engine Control EC1, however, I may end up going another route such as Gen90 or Go-Tech yet; there's plenty of time to decide!

Other things I'd like to get done; replace the wheel nuts and generally give the hubs a tidy up. I've always really liked the iridescent effect nuts (jdm style, I guess?) so I'm hoping I can find these in the correct size for the Clio. I feel, at the moment, the gruby rusty looking hubs and old discoloured nuts let the look of the wheels down some what.

I'm going to finally get around to removing the front fog lights and running cold air feeds through to the front arches to help cool the brakes. I'm assuming this will also mean that the carbon canister will need to be binned.

With regards to my brake setup, for some reason, the braided brake line on the front offside is pulling tight when on full lock. I've tried every possible route around the strut, but it still pulls tight; something that I'm not really happy leaving as it is. Mark at JamSport has said he'll get Earls (who supplied the lines in the original 4-pot kit) to make me a set of slightly longer lines to replace them, which is fantastic.

There was also mention a while back about the possibility of JamSport producing separate bells and rotors for use with their 4-pot kit. If this goes ahead, I'll be changing my discs for this setup.

The only other modification I really want to do is replace the steering wheel. The standard item is way past its best and the right hand thumb grip has now split completely :dapprove: I'll most likely be replacing with a black suede aftermarket wheel.

Finally, I also need to get the car to a dent removal specialist. Over the winter months the nearside rear quarter appears to have taken quite a few knocks from doors in carparks! I've counted about 5 small car-park dents in there. Very annoying, as I always put a lot of work into keeping my cars looking their tidiest and best. Still, I'm hoping it's a cheap enough fix. I had this number of dents sorted previously and it was only about £90. :)

If you've read down to hear and aren't asleep, thanks! :rasp: I'll update this thread as things progress; the next update should be the purchase of the throttle bodies.

Bells and Rotors would be immense, strange one with the lines mate !

Im also putting in a cold air feed for the brakes soon, gonna need them when running 15'' imo. Its tight in there now with 16's lol

You going to be tracking it this year Oliver ?

I seem to remember Mark making a comment about the possibility of developing bells and rotors, so I'm hoping he pursues this idea!

What 15's are you going for? There's very little clearance with my 2118's, literally a couple of mm, if that! lol

Re tracking, I'm undecided at the moment, but it's looking likely. It's something I'd like to do tbh. :)

Yea hopefully they do them.

Getting some OZ f1s on R888 tomorrow from atouba, so will then have no excuses but to take it on track lol.

I thought the Jamsport 4 pot had separate bells and rotors...

My compbrake 4 pot kit does ;)

Plans for next year sound good Oliver!

Nope, unless anything has changed recently. Mine is using Brembo high carbon discs.

I'm happy with them, but separate bells/rotors would, of course, be a nice addition!

yeah, I noticed the comp-brake uses them :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

I believe I've found the 'polar' effect wheel bolts, in the correct sizing.

12x1.5 thread, 60 degree tapered seat and a 27/28mm thread length; sounds correct to me?

So, I've got a single sample on the way to check, before placing a full order for 12 standard and 4 locking :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

I've also just read this from start to present and it is a great read! Look forward to seeing how the ITB's go for you, although for me I really think the JMS kit is the option I would look at.

My Clio 182 is in its infancy and i'm literally on page 1 of progress, but your thread has given me some ideas of bits I would like to change!

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Wheel bolt arrived yesterday; impressed with how it looks and the quality :approve:

Checked the fitment, which is correct, so I've just ordered a complete set to replace all the existing bolts. If they arrive as quickly as the first one I ordered, they should be here in a couple of days.

I may have a look to see if someone does other sizes of bolts/nuts in this style; would be quite nice to replace the bolts in the engine bay with this style

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

I finally got fed-up of looking at the dirty horrible ones that are currently on the car!

The only thing to watch, is my current ones have a rotating sleeve at the taper, whereas these don't. Got to be careful when torque'ing them up not to damage the wheels!

But, they should improve the look of the wheels :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

I contacted the distributers; I found out later that they were also the manufacturers! :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Decided I was going to change over the bolts and tidy up the hubs this morning; I got as far as getting the bolts swapped before the weather took a turn and it decided to rain! :dapprove:

I'm not sure about what to do about the locking wheel nuts at present, until the polarised effect ones are available again. At the moment, I have three polar wheel bolts in each wheel and then the original locker; thoughts? I could just swap it over for another polar bolt and risk it until the matching locking nuts are available?

Really happy with them anyways; the photos don't seem to show the polarised effect too well, but I love how they look against the anthracite wheels! :D

If/when it stops raining I may head out and crack on with sorting the hubs :)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

oli thats exactly what i was looking for next!

Did they set you back a lot?

Id ideally like some blue anodised ones

  Ollie's Silver Cup
Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

No, not expensive at all; £40 for 16 of them, plus delivery.

I think the locking bolts will be about £20-£25 for 4, so again, not bad at all. :)

I believe the same place do them in anodised finishes too.

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Do you know if they will anodize them, or do anodized ones?? Saying that they look spot on, i may have to copy you!

First the wheels then the bolts lol

Ill let you copy the streamline carbon center caps ive had made ;)

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Sounds good, could be interested in something like that. I'll have to see how it looks when I've tidied up the hubs.

I've just sent a PM over to you, but I can't seem to find anodised blue, I must have been mistaken! :(

Re: Iceberg 172 Cup Project

Just spoke to them mate, dont do anodised so ill go with the same finish as you i think :D

thanks for your help!

It's a shame they don't do them, especially considering they do those finishes on the nuts.

Good choice though! :rasp:

Just read this thread all the way through, albeit back to front, and I'm loving it mate. Looks really good, the drop on the 2118's and the colour work so well from a look point of view and the little carbon trinkets finish it off nicely. Bet you can't wait to get those ITB's on, gonna sound sweeet :D. Well done mate, keep up the very good work :)
