OMEX Controling Slim Rad Fan

  TrackCar & F30 330d
The information below has been taken from the Omex 600 Manual and I just wanted a little bit of reasurance that I have read it right.

Cooling Fans

The ECU has two software outputs switchable on coolant temperature values. These would normally be used for cooling fans. The two outputs may be set to two different fans or set at different temperatures for twin speed fans.

Rad Fan On
temperature at which the rad fan output is on
Rad Fan Off
temperature at which the rad fan output is off. Set a few degrees lower than Rad Fan On to allow hysterisis
Bay Fan On
bay fan on at this temperature
Bay Fan off
bay fan off at this temperature. Set to a few degrees below Bay Fan On to allow hysterisis

The rad fan is a dedicated output pin on the ECU (6C blue black). Bay fan is not dedicated and so needs to be set as one of the auxiliary outputs.

Correct me if i am getting this wrong, but if i connect pin 6C from the ECU to one of the wires on the fan, and then earth the other wire then after i have set the fan to come on at a particular temp then it should work.

Is it the CTS which reads how hot the car is?

What Temp should i set the Fan to turn on?

What Temp should i set the Fan to turn off?

And what is the difference between the Rad Fan and the Bay Fan?

Thanks in advance

Chris :)

Yes 6c wire is dead on, I remember asking the same question about the temps. Its definately in one of my previous threads.

Oh right cool. So as long as i set the temps correctly the fan will come on when the CTS senses its at that temp?

you must run a relay to power the fan. The output from the ECU should be used as a relay trigger signal and not as direct power for the fan.

on at 95, off at 92 is a fairly typical setting

Ok thanks Danny, So i should be able to use the standard relay for this, just need to find out which one is it.

I just found this at the bottom of the manual

Radiator Fan

The radiator fan output cannot handle enough current to control the fan motor directly. It must therefore have a separate fan relay.

There's also a picture of how to do it so that'll help :)

Is your omex already spliced into the standard loom, and already running the old fan setup? (like mine is) If yes then just cut the connector off the old fan wiring and wire to the new one?
That means the relay and that is already done?
