Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Awesome update, roll on TomTom. Quite simply the best phone available.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

pleased with that!

No themes though :(

also the in app payment, just another way to swindle more money out of the user.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Looks like a lot of excellent new stuff.

What's Spotlight btw?

The metadata search engine that's in OS X, seeing as how all the information on the iPhone is pretty much stored inside sqlite, they've done a similar thing.

SQL queries across application data = fast search.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Crikey. Seems good.

As a bit of an iVirgin, having only owned the Touch for a few months now, what does this mean for users like me? What will I gain from paying for this update?

Sorry to be a n00b. As for the iPhone... well as my contract is up, is it worth holding on for the new iPhone/a current 3G with this update in a few months?

I really could do with a decent camera phone TBH :dapprove:

Re: iPhone Q&A DONT START ONE QUESTION IPHONE THREADS. **POST HERE**

Apologies if it's been covered, this is a bit of a panic question...

I'm going to France on the weekend - how can I turn off the 3G, etc roaming? I'm assuming this useful, free, UK-based feature will cost me a small fortune in Europe?

Settings > General > Network > Data Roaming

It defaults to off IIRC anyway, but best to double check.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Just watched the video from the apple site of the conference and the update is very promising. Who thought copy and paste would be so exciting.

Shame no mention of a badge for the calendar tho :( I want some notification that i have upcoming appointments or 9 appointments today....

It's a bit odd really, they also have the perfect place to show information like that, the unlock screen. It's a place that has a nice amount of unused real estate and could easily show upcoming calendar events, you wouldn't even have to unlock the phone.

It'd probably have to have some sort of privacy setting so it could be turned off for the paranoid, but for most people I reckon it'd be perfect.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

There is a new hardware in the pipeline and it's "imminent", I know this for sure.

I have no idea of when exactly though.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

I wonder if there will be any MMS allowance built into the existing O2 tariffs.

Sorry it this has been mentioned elsewhere!

It used to take off 4 text messages from your bundle. But considering an MMS costs 20-30p thesedays it will be interesting.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

so frustrating, wish they'#d at least announce something, i've been holding out for a new iphone for around 18months or something. Still hav a 2g which is going strong on 1.1.2 :)

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

ive been waiting since the anouncement of the 3G as i was a few months into an 18 month contract at that point!

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

should fall into your tex allowance hopefully.

It will be that I'd be sure. If you put your O2 sim into another phone that can send MMS then you'd be able to do it with the MMS coming from your SMS allowance. It still counts as 4 MMS'. I.e. you could send 125 MMS with the £35 iPhone contract.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

better not be a new f**king iphone, mines is coming this morning!

there will be a new one this year. it will either be announced soon for a release just after the summer, or will be announced in the summer for the xmas market. (if they follow their previous marketing / release strategies)

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

I was always under the impression that if a new one does come out, you can just upgrade to the 4G along with a new contract?

  E87 118d M Sport
Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

i think they *might* honour this as they did it from the 1G to 2G.
youll just have to buy the phone again! but then i spose if you sell the one you get it wont be too much more cash

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Well no. It wont be 4G as thats not even a thing! lol..

The first iPhone you paid outright for the phone £169/£269 so then you could do what you wanted with it. You didnt need the contract. The 3G one is heavily subsidised so theres no promise they'll do that again.

Imagine if you got a 3G today and then tomorrow out comes the 3G II. O2 arent going to let you upgrade, pay the £200 and keep both phones.

Re: iPhone 3.0 Discussion

Not sure how the iphone works, but other contracts don't allow you to do that, normally within 4 months of the contract ending.

Oh, and it's not a 4G. ;)

Have a word with 02, they should tell you where you stand.
