Only rear washer squirts even when trying to use the front one!

Ok I've got a weird problem and it's got to the stage where I need to fix it :)

Occasionally whenever I used to pull the wiper stalk back to fire off the front windscreen washer jets the rear one would come on instead. Usually I'd stop and do it again and it'd then work.

But now it's doing it all the time, pulling back the stalk the rear washer comes on and the front washers do nothing :( The wipers themselves still work as normal, just the washer jets that aren't working.

I had a little poke about to see if I could see anything but there wasn't much to look at, just the pump and the plug that goes into it. Doesn't help that Renault have made it really hard to get all the plastic covering off so actually getting down into the pump/reservoir bit is proving difficult. Looks like I'd have to take the wipers off but after undoing the nut that would appear to hold them on they just don't budge :(

Could it just be adodgy pump, I've no idea how the car splits things to send water to the back washer, does it use 1 or 2 pumps?

Any ideas?

you need a puller to get the wipers off or a lot of force.

Could be faulty pump more likly IMo fautly wiring.

pump has two wires to it and two pipe one for front one for rear.

the electricity runs one wasy though the pump and the pump runs one and runs the other wsy to supply the other pump try swopping lines round etc

Hoping not the wiring, had the car a good few years now and it's only done it a handful of times until now. Will have another look tomorrow and just flick the wires round on the plug to see what it does.

I'm guessing the pumps from gsf/halfords don't have the nice and neat Renault connectors on ? :) Will pick one up from Renault weds I think.

And sod trying to get those wipers off, the motor I can slip out the gap in the scuttle panel I think :) Or it'll be another job for the boys at Carlton Garage :)

Be careful fiddling about yu might fine you drop the wsher in the tank in when pushing the water pump back in.

As for the connections you can just wire them up I've got an astra pump on mine at the moment it just need some wire throwing down the renault plugs and onto the other type
