Not had much chance to play, but have a done a few draggy pulls on the Clio this morning on the way to work, fresh air giving it some boost. Not too bad I don't think?

A while back I timed 60-100 on the hybrid turbo, totally forgot I had a draggy tbh but popped it on on the way home from work today, not tried it hard but just a few pulls. Now considering the power hasn't increased just the spread of it, it shows. Not dropping out of spool I guess? 0.74 seconds quicker with all my work bits in the car and not trying. Decent improvement tbh.

About a week ago, the car threw a gearbox warning fault (could be tied to the emissions issue/fault in the above video though mpg has improved)

Decided to do some more tinkering and digging around. Opted to buy myself some kit that allows me to bench flash and obd flash many ecus, but also the dc4 getrag TCU!

If you remember I had my original TCU fail, bought a Chinese supplied item but it didn't work correctly and i was told it had the incorrect software on. I then purchased a complete 2017 box and TCU, fitted that and had it mapped by scoff at EFI with a few more changes.

I think I've now been able to pull the TCU file off both my current TCU (through obd) and my original TCU (on the bench) and flashed the Chinese TCU with my original file. I may try the later one from the trophy if the hardware codes match up. So hopefully, all being well I now have a new TCU with the correct software on, just need to fit it and try it I guess.....

I was bored and had a little time on my hands.

Something ive been wanting to knock up for a while was a heat shield to protect the big open filter I have. Had similar on my old Leon cupra R from badger 5 so knocked up a shield from aluminium. Mounted it on a cotton real rubber at the back to secure it. Need to pop to the local scrappy for some rubber edging to seal it against the bonnet, the area is fed with cold air from the bumper. Probably nets me 0.5hp but should help keep the engine heat out of the intake (y)

You still thinking of selling it?

I sometimes consider but have no idea what I would get.

I still really want to experience the car with a hybrid though, think I'd regret selling it before I did.

Its always a thought at the back of my mind. Id defo miss it though, great all round car. Not sure what id replace it with if I was to let it go. Only thing i could think of would be a proper kit car

Seems to be 1-2 degrees cooler on general driving (4/5 above ambient instead of 5/6). On boost at speed its also a bit cooler than it was. What I did notice the most was it seemed to recover quicker than previously seen/noted.

That's about as technical as its going to get without proper pre and post logging. Works for me (y)

This is a pretty big update (in my eyes) for Clio 4 RS aftermarket support. Ive posted this chaps youtube stuff previously, along with his properly in depth info on hpfp and injector flow rates (why the clio 4 rs hpfp taps out at around 300bhp) hes been working on motec/renault stuff and now he has it on a Clio 4rs!

Motec plug in ecu that talks to the TCU and works!

Still tinkering, giving the car a go with the recirc removed, same as I do with all the turbo motors. Gives them that "dose" sound normally. Hasn't thrown a wobbly on the dash yet but if it does I'm sure I could just code it out. Sounds pretty cool.

Still want to look the boost pipework, I really don't like its length or how it runs. The hot side needs remaking in ali and the cooler could go bigger too with some adaptations to the cross member. I've also got hold of a devils own WMI kit, not sure ill keep it yet but may give it a go just to assist with temps, especially on hot days/track days.

Whats charge temps like on current cooler on hot days/on it?

Could go for the 100mm core welly cooler.

Was actually checking some old track day vids, 15 ambient was seeing 40s on pulls! Thats only on what I could see, imagine it being alot worse on 20+ days. Recovery was still decent though. On the road I dont think its an issue. Not a bad shout on a welly tbf

Is it still running the forge cooler? Looks quite small. Sounds like our old 250 ic which consistently pulled 30/40deg temps when on it on a forge cooler. They dont work great on any car.

I was thinking this had a welly cooler on it but was thinking of the twingo. Normal 70mm welly cooler will be miles better.

Yeah the Twingo had the old welly on, was awesome on that. I went with the Forge item for direct fit and what not. I mean its not bad as such, I just think it could be a lot better. Probably a decent upgrade for a stock/stock mapped car, the oem intercooler is shocking on that. Probably asking it to work pretty hard on my setup, Ill have a measure up of the space at some point.

The daily driver keeps on plodding, just realised id have owned it 3 years this year (come July so still half a year off), and for me, that's a very long time.

Decided to get the wheel off and check over the suspension. Have had an occasional, very slight sound of a failed top mount bearing, when the spring binds slightly then bongs round. Couldn't find a thing wrong with it tbh. Gave the bearings a bit of a clean and lube up but I may order a set from compbrake just in case its them failing. Springs still look in one piece too 🤷‍♂️

Front brake pads have about half their material gone and the discs are starting to get an edge so they are on the list along with a tire rotation and alignment. Fronts are wearing on the inner edge a touch.

Whilst in there I added an oil catch can and blocked off the some spare breathers as per the cup/race cars, just because I was bored....

The car continues to be a joy to live with tbh, great daily and fun car, could do with another 50bhp I think but what car wouldn't :D
