OS drive shaft engine clearance question

Hey everyone

Finally managed to get hold of the correct OS drive shaft for my 172, however I was very surprised how close the inner boot sits to the engine, and there seems to be no real adjustment anywhere, as the shaft fits into the bearing housing behind the engine.

Just wanted to confirm this is right, if anyone's had to do the same job?

Yep thats how it is very very close. Hence why the cannot be re booted due to the jubilee clip hitting the engine block.

Thanks for the reply martin. The one that was originally on it was a genuine Renault one, with the boot being part of the shaft. The new one I've got is a non genuine, with clips on both ends of the boot, so if it splits (hopefully it won't lol), then I can just replace the boot. It's literally no more than a 2mm gap (if that) between it, but at least it's solid, so hopefully it won't catch at any point. The clip that’s on it is actually further away than the first 'plumped' up bit of the boot, so if anything’s going to catch, unfortunately I think it will be the boot itself. It's got a 2 year warranty, but hope not to have to use it

Non genuine shafts are made of chocolate and don't last that long. Sorry to be a party pooper

I've got the same problem o/s inner gaitor is close to enginge block but it also looks like it not straight goin into gearbox slight offset not by much is this ok? Thought this was a problem ie driveshaft not fitted properly and that was why the inner gaiter sat so close to block don't want to go back to garage and complain if that how it's meant to be thanks for your time in advance peps
