Painting Amplifier??

Car  172
Right ive one of my amps in bits atm as im about to do something with the case. Thing is underneath there is two heat transfer points where the internal part screws into the heavy metal cover, this is to disperse heat into the cover to cool it i guess.

Thing is i want to powdercoat the metal shell, shall i only do the exterior and leave the underneath as it is, or do the whole thing and scrape off the powdercoating at those two points? Will powdercoating melt?

hit me with your ideas..

Well tbh, i think just powdercoat the top, and leave the underneath as it is.

1. you will save on paint.
2. no one would see the underneath of it anyway

the outer case is the heat sink, i wouldnt paint any of it

thats right, the heat diperses thro it. IF it was powdercoated it would still get hot and disperse heat would it not, powdercoating is only going to be on the outside, the internal transfer points would still be on the original metal.

i guess it depends how much power your putting through it ie how hard its working, if your running it at full pelt i strongly reccomend that you do not paint it, as the cooling will be significantly impaired, most metals are anodised to get colour not painted on amps

however if its only running at low levels then it should be reet as its never getting that hot

well its scratched and in need of a spruce up to fit in my install.

Its a 4 x 100w Clarion that im using to run 6.5" componants front and back. So not too much stress on it.

Go to your local friendly powdercoater, ask for some of there special masking tape. Mask the inside. Get it powdercoated. It'll be fine.

If it does go pop, this post maybe deleted.;)

ive got the powdercoater already, he could mask the internal part leaving the transfer points to act as normal. Just wondering what will happen, will it allow heat to escape? Its got a fan on the side of the amp, and im fitting a 12v PC fan at the other side to blow cool air over it.

Not as tho im running subs off it and its going to be working that hard?

Oh and ive a screen print saved of your post Nigel!! ;)

heres a pic of what i mean, i want to outside of this powdercoating
