As the detailer said that other onne is crap and no good at all You can get a silverline which a few on DW use but it needs a new backing plate and decent pads so around £80 all in but is more dangerous and easier to fvck your paint if you dont know what you are doing Seriously start with the DA I did it the other way round and regretted it
You can sometimes get a good deal on a second hand PC or look on ebay there a guy sells UDM's for around £120

Ive seen paint being burned through with a rotary, and i certainly wouldnt use one.

Lol only if you held it there for a while. There not as bad as everyone says.
fair enoguh its more difficult to get a decent finish but then practise makes perfect

After seeing how hard you actually have to try and burn through paint with a Rotary as others have said strike through is not the main problem with them. You find a thin patch with a porter cable or even by hand and you will go through anyway.
The main downside to a rotary is getting a perfect finish with one, the art is not leaving buffer trails and holograms behind with it.

PC, UDM & Dual Action are all the same thing in principal - Easy to use, vibrates alot, slow correction, Safe, no heat
Rotary - Harder to control, easy to create hollogramming or marring, fast paint correction, steeper learning curve, creates lots of heat

PC - Porter Cable - the original choice. A random orbital machine (spins and oscillates to make paintwork burning hard) basically wood sander converted for paintwork use, made in the US 110V so you would need a transformer.
UDM- Ultimate Detailing Machine, a modified / Porter Cable Clone, was not that well received on launch, meant to have more power available in both 110 and 240v formats I believe.
I would go for the Meguiar's G220 said to be more effective than the PC, and it is 240v so no need for transformers , is a UK machine so you have warrenty. I have no choice as the PC was the only option when I got mine.

Rotary is the original bodyshop choice, the clue is in the name it just spins and rotates. The benefit is more power and speed for quicker correction, the danger is it will burn paint, press down on it and it will just keep spinning. Any of the random orbital machines above will bog down and stop spinning. As great as a rotary is to correct things the skill is getting a perfect wax ready finish without holograms and haze.
Dual Action/ Rando Orbital - DA/RO both apply to Porter Cable machines ie PC/UDM/G220 which all have a head than spins and oscillate - as said they bog down if you press down on them to reduce the likely hood of paint burn.

I'm so glad I have a light weight, soft starting, electronic speed controlled Rotary over a cheapo ebay special.
At the end of the day, its the same as everything in this life, you get what you pay for!
