PENSIONER DRIVES CLIO SPORT!!

  CLIO 1.2 16V MK2 EXPR
wtf!! a good lookin silver clio sport 172 with meaty alloys (sorry bit of a newbee and have no idea what they were!) pulls up beside me at the traffic lights sounding like something from the fast & the furious. my eyes wonder over the car - it had been well looked after - now i dont know if you do this but as i inspect the car i start to build a image of what the driver looks like - i had a mid 20's 'geezer' in my head.

i look at the driver and he's old enough to be my grandad!!! he looked about 70, glasses with lenses like milk bottles!!!

i bet he didnt even know the full potential of the car - he drove off about 2mph!!

have any of you seen someone driving a sporty/modded clio and thought 'they shouldnt be drivin one of those!'

  Mk4 .:R32
I've started seeing a lot more middle aged women (40 odd) driving type r's, cooper s', imprezas around my end. It's really weird!! Why by a performance car if you gonna potter around in it!?

The bloke I bought my 172 off was 68.He only got rid of it because his grandchildren were getting to big to get in and out of it and his wife was nagging him because she said that they must look daft driving around in it.He bought himself a Golf GTI but he said it was crap compared to the Clio, nowhere near as much fun.I always remember when he took me out for a test drive the old bugger certainly knew how to drive it!!

The ones i ALWAYS see are 40-50+ women in Fiesta ST's. many even have the stripes! pmsl
I always think what a waste of a car. They must buy them because its the "top of the range" and then pootle round in them.

  172 mk2 Iceberg
my Dad got his 182 for his 70th

With his track racing exp i think he is one of the best drivers i know

Good cars are wasted on the young. And fast cars are dangerous in their hands.

They don't appreciate them.

They do appalling things to them.

They abuse them.

They ought only be allowed to own crappy old rubbish that it doesn't matter if they wreck.

Wait, they are, thanks to the costs of insurance. Ha, ha, ha.

There's an elderly couple near me with a ph-quick, and an old dude (60ish) with a 07 plate 197 in racing blue with white cup racer wheels and the cup racer spoiler lol. He drives it so steady and he never goes above 55.

Hey dont knock them! Let them buy them new, take the hit on depreciation and look after it so when we buy it 2nd hand we get a mint non-ragged 197. ;)

Exactly.Mine was the first one I had looked at/driven.It was 3 years old and it was as if it had just come out of the factory but I paid less than half the original price.

Normally pensioners in top end models, as the saleman sells them the top spec model and they know no better. I've seen a couple of proper pensioners in 182! lol.

Nothing tops the 70 y o I saw in an diamond white S2 RS turbo Escort lol, mint even had a dump valve lol.

My dads 61 in December & he's got a 172.

I just love some of the stereotyping on here that old people mustn't have a clue what they're driving or that they drive them slow all the time & that the car must be their sons/daughters lol.

It's not like a clio is a supercar at all (although clearly some on here seem to think that it is) My dad can actually drive & would put a lot of folks half his age to shame:)

When you have worked all you life, are you going to buy a little engine car, i.e new clio fiesta or would you buy something sporty, obviously sporty because i think cant wait till i get older till i can afford something like a sporty fast car, well maybe there just retireing and now buy mint cars, im sure they could show us how to drive too, well maybe not the really old ones lol

  Mountune Tractor
I think the middle aged women buy them because they like all the toys in the top range models which you dont normally get in the 1.2/1.4 range unless it's a special edition. There are 2 red 172's round my way driven by 40 somethings.
