Like most people on here, i could easy afford one, but i actually do not like them, yes i have driven one and yes on track, maybe if i was 20 again who knows.

imo, the majority of the new owners will not be existing Sport owners, as its not a big enough a step to warrent the cash outlay.

For the last time. 172s & 182s look like slippers by todays standards. From the side profile they look like a girls slipper. They rattle and creak their way around the road. The steeering wheel is 8ft in diameter and needs spinning 8 turns lock to lock. Your seats are fitted 8ft from the floor, and with the seat as far back as it goes - the steering wheel is still too close and the gearstick is 8ft away - and has a throw of 8ft between ratios.

The 197 is better. The king is dead, long live the king! Oh wait...

and as for dicks comments.....lol. i have 3 clios, albeit none of them new, 2 x williams 1s and a 51 plate dci. cant afford a 197.....no course i cant....thats why i choose to run 3 cars, because i cant afford.

The 197 has really grown on me over the past few months, I think that it has got to be one of the best looking Hot Hatchs out there. At least all of the vents are there for a reason, unlike the VXR.

Thing is I love my Trophy to much and couldn't think about chopping it in for a 197. After owning the Trophy and taking the 197 out you really feel the extra weight and body roll, but one thing I would have is those amazing Brembos, i nearly went through the windscreen.

If the 197 came in Capsicum Red with Sachs suspension then and only then may I think about the 197 LOL

I drove one when my 182 was in for a service , it didn t feel as fast but i think that was because it was a lot more refined to drive . I would definately change to one it felt a lot better built than my tin can .

When I got my 182, there were plenty of reasons to choose one over a golf gti etc (lightness, agility, good brakes, steering feel etc), but I'd now rather have a meg230, golf gti, focus st over a 197. Awful steering (try finding a review that doesn't mention it), far too heavy, stupidly short gearing to compensate, overpriced. As for the rattles, so? Does that mean you wouldn't have an elise because it's noisy?

Persoally i love em both. I think the 172 is the best, but only because its smaller and i love the interior. The 197 is non the less attractive, but having said that, it is, a totally, different car. They both have their good and bad bits, each of which makes me love the cars allmost equally. I WOULD have to go for the 197, simply because its the newer model and by the time i can afford one the 172 will be old. and the 197, will be repalced with a different car most prolly.
