People with Inlet mods, ECU ???

  Megane R26
Been looking at having the inlet mod/match done on my mk1 172. Spoke to BenR and he has a mani/pleni all ready for a swap. Was wondering thou about the ECU. I have been told that the AFR needs to be altered. Was wondering wether running without on standard ECU is safe, or get mine reflashed to GroupN or go for a remap. OMEX/SMT6 out of my leauge. Need to be cheap as possible. Cheers.

I have Maxogen, Hillpower Inlet manifold, Prospeed Cat Back and GrpN ECU.

Never had the AFR checked, but Nick Hill assured me that the GrpN will be fine with the mods I have.

Throttle response is absolutely razor sharp, pulls much better low down and goes like a train above 5k rpm.

You could get your inlet done and a GrpN ECU for about £450. I don't think you can beat those two mods together for the money.

Cheers Lagerlout. I've already got ProSpeed catback and BMC. Where the best place for grpN flash? ie chespest :)

I got mine from Hillpower... Was 236 +VAT for a whole ECU, not a reflash, so you have you're original as a spare if you wish to return it to standard.

Best to ring Nick - We get a Clisoport Discount.

Interesting Ben didn't have any inlets/pleniums last wk.......

You don't need to map it...But it's all part of a bigger picture. I'd make sure you have zorst, decat and Some sort of breating before mapping.

The BBPT one is more expensive and just a reflash on an exchange basis.

The GrpN from Hillpower is a whole new ECU from Renaultsport.

That's why I went to Hillpower anyway.

Ali, I spoke to Ben along while ago, and have one set aside (hope he has still got it :( ). Already got exhaust and induction.

Once I hear back from Ben, I'll give Nick/HillPower a ring.

Lagerlout, did you fit your own inlet? Asking as I want to get the inlet/pleni polished, so will fit myself. Heard a few horror stories on here where ppl have had air leaks when refitting. Any advice? :)

I dont, i've only got a MK1 172 item.

I personally would have some form of remap done, they do tend to run rather lean once you install them.

Maybe try one of the people on here able to supply a customised remap of the std ecu for very good money.

LOL^

Mr.Stabby - No mate, Nick did mine. He's got some very interesting plenhams that are 'chrome sprayed' rather than polished. You can have any colour you want (inc silver) and the bonus is it won't go dull, so you won't have to keep it polished.

Just a thought.

Regarding mappers, none in the South? :( And is it easy to fit? do I have to replace the gasket? Excuse my lack of certain knowledge, still learning.

  VaVa
You'll need to replace the gaskets mate yes. They are compression type iirc.

I watxhed Nick do mine and it didn't look too difficult. Just lots of stuff to unbolt, disconnect etc.

I don't know of any mappers in the South.... Hillpower and YozzaSport are Midlands based.

The inlets are fiddly to get off there's a bolt on the side with is quite difficult to get at! Other than that it's a doddle.

yea there is ony bolt that is a bit of a tit to play with and line up new gasket and squeeze it all in, not hard just annoying.

As for GrpN ecu...never tried it with my manifolds, never been too interested in the GrpN ecu. Might be ok, but i dont want to say as i dont know how much extra fuel they are putting in, as the manifold requires a surprising amount extra.

Got the voicemail, just forgot to reply as i was all suited up at the porting bench.
