Performance Tuner magazine induction kit test

Dear Clio Sport forum users,

I wonder if you could help me, I am looking for a either a phase one or two 172 (or Cup) to conduct an induction kit power test on for publication in Performance Tuner magazine.

We will need the car for a full day during the week and the lucky participant will get to keep their choice of kit once the testing is completed. We will be testing for both air charge temperature as well as power and torque gains.

Ideally we are looking for a car based in Kent / Surrey / Sussex if possible, with a target date of the second week in June for the test. It should make for a memorable day out and obviously the forum will receive a plug as well in the magazine.

Any interested parties should contact me on peterknivett@yahoo.co.uk tel: 07778 369161 and I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and best regards

Just read this, epic waste of time. I don't understand the point tof going to the trouble of getting a forum owners car (ie better than average knowledge) and then not testing the 2 kits that people most commonly aknowledge as the 2 best kits (maxogen and bmc). Waste of £3.95.

Was a Crap test believe me..... They said the K&N Gen2 was the Best IK for a Clio RS

Now if I was going to Cough up the wedge for one of those then I would be Buying a ITG Maxogen for sure

Utter shite. First and last time I'll be buying it. More ads than auto-express. Awful publication. Under 100 pages, 1/3 of which are adverts.

I haven't got a clue mate, but I'd of been interested to see how it performs. I could never see myself spending that sort of cash on induction. Rather spend it on wheels that nearly fall off on track.

Fred, what is the best set-up for a ph1? The original airbox with an ITG filter?

Or something like this (courtesy of Burp ):

AGAIN why does everyone think the maxogen is the best??? because it costs £400???

I'd never spend that much on any IK, I have a Ph1 Airbox with an ITG Filter and I'm happy with that for £40 :)

I'm Curious about your Opinion on the Above Question aswell

  Lionel Richie
bring the car over warren (call me)

phs1 airbox is a wee bit cheaper and just as good

do you think ITG have the finances that renault do to develop things such as airboxes? no thats why a maxogen is a generic part (pretty much) one size fits all kinda thing

Will an 'open' IK set-up (like the one I pictured above) offer any better performance or just make noise??

  Lionel Richie
well its a bit deceptive testing stuff like this on a RR, who here drives around
with their bonnet open at 120mph with no airflow?? get my point?

Agreed Fred..... Engine Temps, Airflow Issues all add up to a Pretty Worthless Test

I'll be sticking with what I have for now :)

your money at the end of the day, but i would take that £400 and give it to Don Palmer and learn how to drive

Cheers, Baggers.

that's an awesome setup, we measured inlet temp just above ambient with a filter in that position, and we were happy with the power it made :)

I couldnt justify spending £450 on an IK!

What were the results of the test?

Dont be silly. They dont cost £450. You'll be telling us next you have a 500bhp Clio and a 6 inch penis :rasp:

I thought the mag feature was ok to a point. Showed like for like IK's and the differences that can be seen between types.

No point testing a Maxogen or a CDA. - Car would have needed mapping their that good ;)

That could apply to any of the kits. TBH, pointless for any reason but noise.

Sorry its £398.33 delivered from ktec. Still alot IMO.

You can get it cheaper than that ;)

Try 350 new :)

It is a lot of money yeah but you make a good percentage of it back if you come to sell, it is a super piece of kit, very very well made and you know that youve bought one of the best if not the best!

Did you not check out the differences in the temperatures? They were massive differences! Thats not pointless

LOL depends what your after. Modded every other area of the car so might as well get the best air intake

Maxogen is probably pointless for someone only gonna be doing basic breathing mods but if your gonna be spending **** loads, might as well

They do pop up from time to time. As said they are so sought after you'll always get a good price back. First one i had on my 172 Cup i bought new...... then sold the Cup to Steve (kev birchdow) with it on as i thought a was getting a ctr. Then i bought the Black 182..... The Maxogen i got for that cost me 160, the lad never knew the worth of it pmsl!!!! Sold it on here for £200, easily could have got more
