tbh i would be more annoyed if they started slating it, which i spose they have done a little bit above, but thats at everyones opinion, lets face it, if you take your car to a garage and it is a desirable car it is bound to have been taken out for a test drive, whether you like it or not, but the op said nothing but good things about it, so tbh wouldnt bother me, as long as no damage had been caused dont see the problems tbh

i see your side but imo i don't think it's right that this sort of thing happens. i wouldn't care less if the guys working there thought it was the worst thing they'd ever seen as long as they had just done the job and not been taken up the street and found that it's rapid - possibly on a cold engine too which is something that i'd definatly not be happy about!!

yer see now i agree about the cold engine thing, thats just not on, i would be fuming if i found that my car is going to be ragged from cold, but how are you going to know, whether anyone likes it or not when you take your car to a garage and it is desirable/rare people will drive it, and id rather someone drive it who actualli cares rather than some of scotty little kid who just wants to rag it, and tbh dont get me wrong, if you could guarentee that the car wouldnt be driven then even better but in this world that aint going to happen,

I would be a bit annoyed to find its been driven out of the workshop but u trust them to drive it around the crowded workshop when you drop it off.

Would be really pissed of if that was mine. Had a simular happen to me, mot station put 35 miles on my old golf over 2 days. Got the mot for free and new pads all round as i kicked off. Read in mags all the time about people that crash customers cars.
I now write down my millage, reset the clock and if they have driven it and there was no need to KICK OFF big style.

Well to be fair if he's refitting all the body work then it'd have to be test driven surely to make sure nothing is rubbing etc. I'm sure he didnt rag the b****cks off it, it wouldnt be worth his job.

lol tbh i think it happens in most bodyshops, when mine went in to get some stuff done it had well over half a tank of petrol, came out a week later with less than a quarter lol, and mines a 1.2!

You can request when dropping a car off for service/repairs that the vehicle is not road tested. If documented (ie scribbled on a job sheet) they then cant legally road test your car.
As for the Op, if that was one of my lads. There would be a sh*t storm coming their way very quickly !
I think it's more the principal that people are getting riled up about. If you entrust your car into the care of a bodyshop/workshop then you don't expect their employees to be taking it out for a joyride.
If there is a valid reason to road test a vehicle that's one thing, this is usually carried out by a senoir tech or a workshop foreman not any old apprentice or helmet working there. Alot of places take a very dim view of that sort of thing going on and it would result in a disciplinary for misconduct.
If the owner or someone they know spotted it out on the road being thrashed by one of the staff it's going to result in alot of awkward questions.

It happen's everywhere! long b4 u got ur car there was someone raggin it up the yard where it was built, then driven onto the transporter then back off again at the dealers, (have u seen how they drive them on and off??) then some fitter PDI's it ready for the road (with a test drive) then some 17 y/o takes it off to valet it (via next doors car park smokin the tyres) Face it, more often than not somebody has already screwed ur car!

We've had stuff in damaged by careless transporter drivers, straight off the lorry and into our work. Still have all the protective stickers on them.
Got to work on this this week
Came in to repair the wing and bumper , bumper wing and door needed blending.
Once finished took it for a drive up the road and back

Hang on. It's his property. If he wants to do donuts leaving your car-park - he can. If he bumps it again within two days and brings it back again to be repaired - again, it's his prerogative.
It's not your assumption however, to take the car even 10ft - let alone out for a drive. How the owner of the car treats it is of no concern to you and therefore can't take it on yourself that it would be ok to drive it.
If it needs to be driven as part of the repair - then fair enough, but your post definitely came across as though you drove it, shall we say..... enthusiastically?
Chances are he wouldn't have minded in you taking it for a blat. But someday, you could either cross the wrong person, or even damage the car through no direct fault of your own.
Risky, in other words.
