Adam from WENB on his blog :

Going Against The Grain...
It seems thats what I'm doing when talking highly of PES 2010. It's like people don't want to hear it, with negativity their main focus when talking about the series.

Is a decent PES game that hard to imagine?

Well you better get used to it, as thats what we have this year. It's awesome to play one great footy game after the other, and while some may want to disguise the fact FIFA 10 isn't that good - it actually is.

But for me there are big reasons why I'll be siding with PES 2010, obviously depending on if they get those bugs cleaned up. First of all the graphical and visual appeal. Yes I know graphics aren't the most important thing in a game, but they're so awesome in PES 2010 that its hard to ignore. From faces, to player models, to kits, to stadiums, to grass etc etc the list goes on. PES 2010 looks miles better than FIFA 10. In all those aspects.

Then there's the dribbling and general feel of playing the game. I appreciate what EA have done with FIFA 10's dribbling with the new skilled dribbling, but it still feels far too predetermined for my liking. To beat a man with natural movements feels very...well, unnatural. When you press down those two shoulder buttons you have it already in your mind you want to beat the man. Where as in PES its all natural, and going past a player is part of the games DNA.

Finally player individuality. I feel EA have made strides to nail this with FIFA 10, but the difference when playing both is clear to see. With FIFA 10 Messi and Ribery are dribblers who are quick, but will they be actually better to purchase over the likes of Lennon or Shaun Wright-Phillips? The intricacies are in PES, and thats what floats my boat.

There's a long list of what FIFA 10 is better at (animations are dreamy!), but people will start to find that in those respective fields PES 2010 isn't that far behind at all. After thinking that way for a number of months I feel more confident in that prediction after playing both games back to back. This IS the year for PES fans, no doubt.

Shall have to play both demos extensively to decide which to buy.

I put it in manager mode when I've won the league and have a couple of games left!

Put it on 5min games! Get to the transfers quicker!

Adam again :

I've been playing the game for around 3 hours, and wanted to give you initial impressions.

First of all, the review code is not final code. I think I incorrectly stated this in the past. It seems its around 90%, with the bulk of what will be in the final game. The only thing left to do is polish.

Embargo's are in place, thats why you haven't seen people who have code shout about it and start to detail gameplay details. Luckily, me and Suff can talk about it on the podcast. But this means no videos or screenshots as yet from the code. Don't worry though, as A) you have the demo tomorrow, and B) we will get final retail code early October.

I'm going to be brief and try to do all my explaining in the podcast. So, we'll have some bullet points:

- Response times improved immensely! So happy about this
- Defending and collisions with players more realistic than previous code
- No excessive use of side foot shot animation, much more variety
- Fake teams now licensed, list to follow after embargo lifted
- Graphics have been touched up some more, really is incredible
- Loads of new faces (Balotelli, Santon etc)
- Still 22 stadiums :(
- Edit mode same as 75% version
- Penalties still not implemented
- More transfers done, but still some left (Sneider to Inter etc)
- New subtle animations. Nothing massive, but plenty of little animations to improve the flow of the game
- Quite a few licensed bands

Thats it for now. Due to embargo I can't be too detailed in my responses, but feel free to ask questions about certain things. Might be good to wait for the podcast though.

The general consensus on the PC version demo is... it's a let down. :(

AI is still poor, the sound effects are awful and the running animations are the same as last years.

Even the ever optimistic guys on WENB are backtracking now and claiming next year's will be the one. Gutting.

But they said it was great after playing the code.

The demo will be different from the final code, it always is with pes imo.

Need to get home and get it downloaded!

Lols I know forza is bad for the losers but pesfan is a hoot this morning!

Moaning almost crying because the demo isn't amazing!

Most of them playing on pc with a keyboard ffs!

Saying it's too easy to score on the lower levels! :S
Erm I hate to point out the obvious!

Yeah I know, I also think over the years the ps3 version has been better not sure why. More fluent.

Half are probably playing with a keyboard I tell thee! Idiots!

COD and Forza out soon anyway! Cod will be in before any of the others!

Next month is going to be a killer, for me!

Fifa 10, PES 10, Forza 3... then there's COD, Splinter Cell... crumbs.

Just downloaded it for the 360. It's pretty good tbh. Dribbling is a lot harder thankfully. The AI hold the ball really well and it's a tough task getting it from the so far. Disapointed at no commentary and Alonso still being at liverpool.

I'm downloading mine as we speak on 360. It's been getting some awful comments, TBF, mixed in with a few really positive ones.

We'll see.

Awful. Absolutely terrible.

No idea who has played this and thinks it's upto the same level as Fifa.

Given it a few goes and I have to agree

Really miss the commentating for a start as PES just seems... I don't know, just has no soul to it

You can see they've tried hard to improve and change it from last year and the graphics on some players are very good, but gameplay it didnt come close to fifa imo

This is what Adam has posted on WENB :

OK just played a match (way too short)

Like people anticipated code is old, reminds me of the code I had at 75% - but seems a tad sharper. Really bad response issues, these are so much better in the code I have. Secondly I've seen AI take over your player, this is non-existent in the 90% code. It was in the previous code I had, but not as common as this one short match in the demo!

Also, silly things players running away from throughballs are in the demo.

Well there's a lot of refinement when comparing this demo to the 90% one I have.

Have to say, the CPU taking over your player is a joke in the demo, even worse than the old code I had. Far too much AI interference.

Secondly, players (when defending) seem to be unresponsive when wanting collect loose balls. Like the throughball problem, always seem to be running away from the ball.

Finally, Top Player is way easier in the demo than my code. You guys are lucky LOL.

but all the issues I've stated are better in the code I have. Apart from that you get a good idea about what PES 2010 is about

well ive played both demos on the PS3 now,and ive got to say i enjoyed PES a lot more, its a big improvement over 2009,espeically the graphics,i think the actual players look so much better than FIFA's - the gameplay just feels more satisfying,i dont know where all this talk of clunkyness, unresponsive etc. on PES comes from - the players are very responsive from what i saw, liverpool were stringing 20+ passes around me - couldnt get near them for a while!

I won my first match with Barca 2-1 - i scored a lovely post & in with Henry on outside of his foot, just felt a lot more satisfying than anything i did on the FIFA10 demo - i dunno, maybe im just one of those people who prefers PES's gameplay a lot more. The gameplay is slower on PES and feels more realistic - the ball doesnt seem 'stuck' to you like it can on FIFA.

I still have reservations over the online side though, really hope Konami can sort it out,as i think thats a big advantage FIFA has atm, with the online leagues etc.

Anyway, really looking forward to the PES release and im glad my initial fears after reading some demo reviews have gone - was quite impressed with it tbh.

I'll be buying Fifa

The only positives HAVE to be being made by deluded fan boys, I'm not sure how anyone could rate the heap of s**t compared to the Fifa demo.

Old code or not, it's a poor showing

f**kabout gally is like certain people in FC - Its still a top quality product even if its doing s**t!

Take the PES tinted glasses off son and give FIFA a proper go! ;)

I will mate, was out watching the game last night so never got it downloaded.

I am a pesfan boy, would never deny that and i'm going to give both games a go this year.

I think I already know pro will be more realistic and nice slow paced.

We will find out. I don't judge any games on demos.

Any thoughts on it Scutch?

Whether this Adam guy is telling the truth or not about it being an earlier code makes no odds, I think it just about sums up Pes tbh!

Why when you lost your status as the best football game last year would you release such a substandard demo? Especially when your rivals release a demo that alot of people are happy with?!?

Think it sums Konami up tbh! They havn't made a decent evo since pro evo 4 the ones since have gradually gone downhill.

I was a massive ISS/PRO fanboy after FIFA Road to world cup 98 too but its just not lived upto its 'superior tag' over the last couple of years and im not willing to play the the poorer game just to stay loyal - FIFA 08 and 09 has come on leaps and bounds and was streets ahead of PRO and if the demos anything to go by its even better this year!

I have spoken to a couple of work mates who bothered to download PRO last night and both have said they already know which they will and wont be buying.
