Petrol engine started to sound like a diesel!!

jumped in my 1.2 clio today it all sounded nice until i got in 5th gear and it sounded like it was Struggling (like it wanted to change gear) so i pulled over popped the bonnet and it sounded so loud like a diesel...
really confused cant think what it could be. it use to be really silent

First check your oil, or even better put a engine flush in, get some good semi synth and change the lot aswell as the oil filter/sump plug washer.

Does it sound tappety/rattely? Could be tappets mate

oils alright
just went out there to see if it rattely and it is a bit rattely. but i cant remember if that was there before or not. it just sounds louder then it was
its a standard 1.2
